Elisabeth's POV
"Why doesn't he just mark his territory by peeing on you?"
Alana's sharp voice cut through the air the second I stumbled through the cafe door, my lungs burning as I fought to catch my breath.
I froze mid-step, staring at her in disbelief while my chest rose and fell rapidly. "What are you even saying? And what was so damn urgent that you had me sprinting across half the city?"
She lifted one shoulder in a careless shrug, taking a slow sip of her coffee like she hadn't just disrupted my entire morning. "Nothing earth-shattering," she said, that familiar mischievous smile spreading across her face. "But that's what happens when you pick some guy over your best friend." Her eyes narrowed into slits as they focused on me. "I know you were right next to your phone when it rang. Twice."
My spine straightened as annoyance flared hot in my chest. She actually made me abandon Jefferson for this nonsense?
