Elisabeth's POV
Life had a cruel way of throwing situations at us that we couldn't control, and this moment was one of those bitter reminders.
Kelly was dying. I had sensed it the instant I rushed through the hospital doors after Jefferson dropped me off earlier. The weight of that knowledge pressed against my chest like a stone.
The thought of telling Elana that her mother was gone made my stomach twist. My relationship with my own mother was complicated at best, but losing her forever would still shatter me completely.
I closed my eyes and pressed my palm against Kelly's cold forehead. "I know she's only human, but please, if miracles exist, let this be one of them."
The steady beep of the monitors filled the silence. I needed to find Elana before it was too late. When I finally located her, she was with Jefferson, tears streaming down her face. I was about to ask why she was crying when he spoke before I could form the words.
"There's a way to save her."
