"Wait, hold up. Let me make sure I understand everything that's happened," Alana said, clutching a throw pillow against her chest like a shield. "So Jefferson gets this cryptic message right before someone tries to turn him into Swiss cheese. But before we dive deeper into this mess, shouldn't we give this psychopath a nickname or something?"
I looked up from the blank sheet of paper that had been mocking me for the past hour, giving her a skeptical look. "What makes you so certain it's a man?"
"Come on, it's obvious," she said, rolling her eyes so dramatically I thought they might fall out. "What woman would orchestrate this level of chaos? I mean, sure, girl power and all that, but this screams testosterone-fueled revenge fantasy. Plus, whoever's pulling these strings has serious resources and connections. A woman with that kind of influence would be more... strategic."
