Ana's POV
On the drive back from the cafe to the studio, I couldn't shake off my restless thoughts.
I didn't snap out of it until Madeline's voice cut through my haze. "What's got you so spaced out? You look like death warmed over—are you coming down with something?"
I shook my head quickly. "No, I'm okay. What's up?"
Madeline gestured toward her phone. "I've narrowed down some solid candidates for interviews. Can you make time tomorrow to sit in on them with me?"
I gave a distracted nod. "Sure. Just set it up."
Madeline agreed, but I could feel her studying me with concern.
She trailed me into my office.
Watching me slump into my chair like a deflated balloon, Madeline's eyes sharpened. "I saw Morris head over to the cafe looking for you earlier. What went down between you two? You look like someone just ripped your soul out through your eyeballs."
At the mention of Morris's name, I felt my composure falter.
