Morris's POV
Yolanda's gentle words seemed to calm Isobel down, and I watched her anxious expression soften slightly.
When she glanced back at me, though, I kept my stare cold and cutting. Her heart might be racing under that look—good. It should be.
"Toby doesn't trust anyone, especially not easily. You're saying he just took your word for it?" I couldn't keep the doubt out of my voice as I studied her.
She stared back at me, eyes going wide like she couldn't believe what she was hearing.
"What exactly are you trying to say, Morris?" Her voice shook.
"Those little games might fool my mom, but don't think you can pull one over on me," I shot back, ice coating every word.
Yolanda's frown deepened, ready to jump to Isobel's defense, but I cut her off before she could start.
"I don't give a damn what arrangement you made with Toby. But if anything happens to Ana, both of you will answer to me." My eyes narrowed as I let that sink in.
"Morris—" Yolanda tried again.
