Morris's unexpected confession hit me like a lightning bolt, leaving my thoughts scattered.
My eyes trembled, and I found myself speechless, unsure how to react.
He didn't push for an answer. Instead, he watched me quietly for a while before breaking into laughter. "Don't they say you should offer yourself in return for saving someone's life?"
His playful tone finally allowed me to exhale in relief.
Still, my heart hammered against my ribs. "You're really joking around at a time like this?"
He grinned and settled back against the sofa, propping his elbow on the armrest with his knuckles supporting his chin.
Those magnetic eyes focused on me, but he sidestepped my question entirely.
"Since you're starting fresh," he said, "haven't you thought about dating again?"
"I haven't even gotten my studio together yet—how could I think about romance?" I replied.
That toxic marriage had left me completely drained. The last thing I wanted was another relationship.
