Ana's POV
"You just arrived? Were there visitors here?" Morris asked, his face stormy.
I could tell he was irritated, so I stepped closer and clasped his hand.
"There were, but they're about to leave," I replied.
I faced Ridley and Hughes, my voice losing its gentle edge. "I won't see you out."
I could tell from Ridley's expression that he clearly hadn't anticipated Morris showing up here. He looked shocked, as if wondering what Morris was doing here instead of at Welch Group.
But when Ridley witnessed me and Morris intertwined, looking so connected and affectionate, his expression immediately soured—he couldn't mask his irritation.
Hughes still felt intimidated by Morris.
He hadn't forgotten the previous encounter when he'd sought out his mom, only to have that man throw him out.
To him, Morris seemed terrifying—like those adults who could devour children whole.
Hughes cowered behind Ridley, too frightened to speak.
Ridley rose and locked eyes with Morris.
