Ana's POV
I shook my head, dismissing his concern. "No apology needed. I'm not really upset—you've done plenty to help me."
Morris caught the detachment in my expression and immediately understood the situation ran deeper than my words suggested.
He recognized my anger.
His thoughts scrambled, and for the first time ever, he appeared completely lost.
After hesitating briefly, he spoke up. "I was actually going to tell you soon, but before I could set up a proper meeting, you discovered it yourself. I truly didn't mean for it to happen this way. Please don't stay mad at me, alright?"
He chose to surrender first, hoping I might consider our shared history and decide to forgive him.
I met his wounded expression and felt completely powerless.
How could a full-grown man manage to look so heartbreakingly vulnerable?
"Didn't I just say I wasn't upset?" I replied.
Morris protested with innocent confusion, "Acting this distant—does that seem like you're not upset?"
