Ana's POV
Back then, I'd just finished high school and taken my college entrance exams when Aileen was found and brought back to the Watson family.
After that happened, I became nothing more than dead weight in the Watson household. Feeling crushed, I flew to Nicholas for a vacation, hoping to shake off the emptiness eating at me.
I spent some time there, and not one person from the Watson family bothered to call.
One evening, I went for a walk and stumbled across Morris in some dark alley—beaten up and bleeding.
The moment he saw me, his eyes went sharp with suspicion. He even grabbed a broken bottle from the ground, ready to come at me.
Fear shot through me. I was about to bolt.
Just as I spun around to leave, I heard a crash behind me. Morris had collapsed, out cold.
Some misplaced sense of solidarity—two strangers in a foreign country—made me drag him back to my rental and patch him up.
When Morris came to, he watched me like I might stab him in his sleep.
