As Jaylen wrapped up his words, I watched Aileen's face crumble into panic.
If the investigation revealed I was actually the designer behind that dress, Aileen had just trashed my reputation in front of everyone—broadcast live across the nation.
The reality of humiliating herself on national television seemed to hit her like a freight train.
I could see the regret washing over her as she finally grasped what she'd done.
With the investigation now in motion, the awards ceremony ground to a halt and they killed the live feed.
The broadcast went dark.
Nolan's patience finally snapped, and he fixed Aileen with a withering stare.
"Ms. Watson, you'd better remember this—if our investigation proves you falsely accused Ms. Vernon, then you'll answer for every ounce of damage this competition has endured," he said, ice coating every word.
Morris rose from his seat and strode onto the stage, extending his hand as I stepped down.
