Morris's POV
I'd expected Edwin to pull the same power play as Fred—flash that Vernon Group authority and demand I stay away from Ana.
Instead, he caught me off guard. "Need my help?"
I stared at him, confused. "With what?"
"Dealing with whoever's trying to kill you," Edwin said, his tone flat and businesslike.
He might've sounded concerned, but his voice held zero emotion.
"No thanks," I shot back without hesitation.
I wasn't about to drag the Vernon family into this mess. Their only job was keeping Ana safe.
Though I'd already arranged for some of my people to watch her from the shadows.
Those bastards were getting bolder by the day.
Edwin's brow creased. "You realize in your current situation, you can't guarantee my sister's safety."
That wasn't what I'd expected him to say.
'Does this mean he's actually okay with Ana and me being together? I haven't even tried winning over the Vernon family yet, and I'm already getting a free pass?'
