"What did you do Kora?"
"I didn't do anything. He wasn't paying attention and bumped into me on the street."
"Oof. I wouldn't want to be him."
Voices conversed as I slowly woke up. My eyes fluttered open, catching the light of an overhead lantern first. I groaned, forcing myself to sit up slowly.
"Where am I?"
I looked up, scanning the room. The walls were lined with dark bricks. Portraits of birds hung on the walls. Warm yellow lanterns supplied light across the room, revealing a medium sized hall with wooden antique furnitures. I looked down to find I was resting on a dark purple couch.
"He's awake."
My gaze shifted, instantly falling on two girls who now stood silently, staring straight at me.
"Who are you guys?" I asked, rubbing my head.
One of them stepped forward and instantly I recognized her. Golden long hair, green eyes and pale skin. Her small frame swallowed by the long white night wear she wore. She was the one I saw before passing out.
"Hello." She greeted. Her voice was soft and innocent. "I'm really sorry about what happened."
I raised my brow, unsure of what she was talking about.
"What?"
They exchanged a glance amongst themselves, then suddenly the other walked forward. Her red hair dancing around her shoulders, falling all the way to her breast where they relaxed comfortably. Her eyes of the same color glowed gently in the light. She seemed to be older than the other.
"Don't worry about that." She said as she fell beside me.
She pressed herself against me, rubbing her breast against my arm. Heat filled my cheeks, my body tensed as she pulled closer. Blood gathered, rushing into my lower regions. I tried to avoid eye contact but I could catch her staring at me from the side of my eye.
She let off a predatory smile. Slowly she leaned closer, until I could feel her breath on my neck.
"So what's your name?" Her voice was silky.
I jumped off the couch I had been laying on. My hands instantly dropping down.
"Uhmmm." I tried to gather my thoughts. "Darius—Darius Vale."
Her brows narrowed and suddenly, the flirt disappeared. Before I could think, she had closed the distance. The cold edge of her blade pressed against my neck.
"Darius Vale? Isn't that the vice captain of the Drakes?"
Her blade pressed, drawing blood from my neck.
"You know it's a crime to impersonate a knight right?"
I swallowed saliva, my throat grazing the sharp edge.
"I am not impersonating." I replied hastily. "I am—I mean was the vice captain of the Drakes."
She raised a brow.
"Was?"
I nodded.
"I was removed from my position this morning and given a new assignment."
She narrowed her eyes again. This time I could tell she had a decision. Slowly her blade began moving across my neck when a voice interrupted.
"He's telling the truth. Mira."
She stopped, jumping back.
"Crap! Stop doing that Sylvi! You scared the f**k out of me!"
She yelled, staring in my direction. Suddenly I felt someone breathing down my neck. A chill traveled down my spine. My head turned slowly, catching the light blue eyes of another lady staring dead at me. I jumped back, stumbling to the floor.
"F**k!" I exclaimed.
My gaze locked on her. Silver short hair scattered in places, light blue eyes and a slim frame. She was taller than the others and seemed to be tired. She stared at me, expressionless.
"He's our new captain I believe. Really weird he ran into you so quickly."
She glanced at Kora then back at me.
"Welcome to the Raven unit captain."
My eyes widened. I couldn't believe what I just heard. My gaze shifted across the room, reading the faces of each of them. They seemed as surprised as I was.
"Captain?" A disembodied drowsy voice said. A lady stood up from behind a wooden counter. She stretched, yawning loudly. "Why would they assign a former vice captain of the strongest unit to us?"
She stepped forward from behind the others. Her light blue hair fell softly against her dark brown skin. Her brown eyes instantly locked on me.
"Finally awake Lina." The seductive one said.
The lady ignored her. She stared at me, observing every inch of my body. Slowly a smile formed on her face, one worse than the other's predatory smile.
"Welcome to the Raven Unit captain. My name is Lina." She said.
"You've met the others?" She gestured at the other ladies who had now taken a seat.
"Hi I'm Mira." The seductive one said, her eyes locked on me. She licked her pink lips, eyeing me down.
"That's enough Mira." Lina scolded.
She glanced over to the golden hair girl. "The little shy one there is Kora."
She waved at me, a rather innocent smile on her face.
"And the silent one is Sylvi."
I glanced around, taking in their names and features. I wasn't meant to meet them yet but I guess this wasn't the worse way it could have gone. Slowly, I pulled myself up, dusting my clothes.
"So it's just you four?"
They nodded in unison.
Of course. The worst unit in the whole of Exodia is a unit made of four girls. Yet as I stared at them, something felt off. They didn't feel weak or even useless. They just seemed untamed. I mean Mira is definitely dangerous with a blade. And Kora had something to do with me passing out. Sylvi approached me and I couldn't even feel her presence. As for Lina, she somehow got them to control themselves.
At that moment I realized that the Raven unit might be more than what they seem.
