Iwa → Proud of having both Ape & Steed mountain signs.
Mist → Half-terrified of Turtle + Slug signs, uses them as cautionary tales.
Taki → Clings to Sky Beetle festivals for relevance.
Hidden Knowledge:
Archivists, old clan heads, weirdos (Jiraiya, Nara elders) remember the Gates were real places, not just signs.
Visual Aesthetics:
Zodiac banners in festival streets.
Old shrines with murals of humans shaking hands with giant stags, beetles, snakes.

Great Domain: Hound Domain – The Howling Mirage
Bijū mirror: Shukaku.
Home: Sunagakure (Wind).
Gate: moving canyon oasis; packs of spectral hounds/jackals.
Function: tracking, pack tactics, long-distance desert messengers.
Virtues: stubborn endurance, trickster intelligence, border guardianship.
Vices: paranoia, tendency to seal problems instead of fixing.
Status: Prime Gate shattered in old Wind–Earth wars; elder spirit dies. Domain fragments into shards → see 7.2.6.
Kuji-in Seal:Rin (臨) — Strength of Mind and Body
Connection: This seal represents the stubborn endurance and border guardianship of the Sunagakure/Hound Domain. It is the power needed to survive in the harsh desert and the mental fortitude required for the "trickster intelligence" inherent in the Tanuki sign.
Sign II – Midnight Bakeneko (Nibi Sign)
Great Domain: Snake Domain – Ryūchi Thunder Caverns
Bijū: Matatabi.
Home: Kumogakure.
Gate: bioluminescent caverns, fossilized lightning pillars.
Function: stealth, assassination, poisons, sensory deception.
Virtues: precision, night-vision (literal/metaphorical).
Vices: ruthlessness, expendable-assets mindset.
Status: Gate limping but active. Orochimaru's contract is with a fragment; Kumo quietly taps some serpent strata for black-ops.
Kuji-in Seal:Jin (列) — Awareness and Telepathy
Connection: This seal focuses on sensory deception and knowing the thoughts/presence of others. It fits the Bakeneko/Snake Domain's specialty in assassination, poisons, and night-vision. It is the "awareness" that allows a predator to strike unseen in the dark.
Sign III – Coral Turtle (Sanbi Sign)
Great Domain: Turtle Domain – The Shell Court
Bijū: Isobu.
Home: Kirigakure.
Gate: submerged plateau of giant shells off Mist coast.
Function: defense, fortification, undersea logistics.
Virtues: persistence, stoicism.
Vices: ossification, cruelty justified as "the sea is harsh."
Status: Gate badly damaged during "Bloody Mist" + bijū experimentation. Court in hibernation; only fragments surface as giant turtles.
Kuji-in Seal:Tō (闘) — Harmony with the Universe
Connection: Known as the "Lion's Roar," this seal represents the stoicism and persistence of the Turtle Domain. It is the unwavering center required for defense and fortification, mirroring the "ossification" and rigid survivalism of the Coral Turtle.
Sign IV – Mountain Ape (Yonbi Sign)
Great Domain: Monkey Domain – Stone Crown Peaks
Bijū: Son Gokū.
Home: Iwagakure.
Gate: cliff fortress with basalt-carved libraries.
Function: CQC, staff/polearms, lava/heat management.
Virtues: blunt honesty, craftsmanship.
Vices: grudges, smash-solution politics.
Status: Gate broken, realm fragmented. Enma and other monkeys = ambassadors keeping a thin chakra thread so Domain doesn't drift into myth.
Kuji-in Seal:Pyō (兵) — Channeling of Energy
Connection: This seal is associated with soldiers and the internal flow of energy. It maps directly to the Monkey Domain's focus on CQC (Close Quarters Combat) and the management of high-energy elements like lava and heat. It represents the "blunt honesty" of raw power used as a tool.
Sign V – Steam Steed (Gobi Sign)
Great Domain: Stag Domain – High Mist Meadows
Bijū: Kokuō.
Home: Iwagakure (Hashirama sale).
Gate: alpine cloud-shrouded pastures with antlered spirits.
Function: logistics, swift messengers, morale, long-range chakra relay.
Virtues: reliability, carrying burdens.
Vices: workaholism, silent resentment.
Status: Gate sealed from inside. Stag sages retreated after too many jinchūriki abuses. Nara deer contracts = shards of this Domain.
Kuji-in Seal:Zai (在) — Creation and Control of Nature
Connection: Often associated with the control of physical existence, this seal aligns with the Stag Domain's role in logistics and long-range chakra relay. It represents the reliability of the Steed and the power to "carry burdens" across the natural world.
Sign VI – Pale Slug (Rokubi Sign)
Great Domain: Slug Domain – Shikkotsu Forest
Bijū: Saiken.
Home: Mist, with Fire border ties.
Gate: marrow-forest, giant skeletal trees, Katsuyu core pool.
Function: regeneration, division, corrosive defense, army-wide sustain.
Virtues: patience, caretaking, surviving dismemberment.
Vices: self-erasure, enabling bad systems by patching them faster than collapse.
Status: Gate active but highly selective. One of the three surviving Legendary Domains. Katsuyu working with Tsunade/Sylvie is a huge deal.
Kuji-in Seal:Sha (者) — Healing and Regeneration
Connection: This is the most literal mapping. The Sha seal is used to stimulate healing and regeneration. It is the core power of the Shikkotsu Forest (Slug Domain), governing army-wide sustain and the "patience" required to survive dismemberment.
Sign VII – Sky Beetle (Nanabi Sign)
Great Domain: Beetle Domain – The Hanging Hive
Bijū: Chōmei.
Home: Takigakure, pressured between Fire & Earth.
Gate: vertical canyon honeycombed with glowing resin hives.
Function: aerial recon, structural demo, skyborne logistics, ecosystem management.
Virtues: adaptability, unseen usefulness.
Vices: expendability, vanishing between great powers.
Status: Prime Gate ruptured in a forgotten war. Shards fell into Fire forests; Aburame bugs descend from one, cut off from the Sky queen.
Kuji-in Seal:Kai (皆) — Opening/Outer Bonds
Connection: This seal represents the realization of the "Outer Bond" and intuition. It is the spiritual foundation of the Hanging Hive (Beetle Domain) and the Aburame's collectivist extremism. It is the "Opening" of the mind to the hive-mind lattice.
Sign VIII – Abyssal Ox (Hachibi Sign)
Great Domain: Octopus Domain – Ink-Black Grotto
Bijū: Gyūki.
Home: Kumogakure.
Gate: whirlpool cavern, ink-lit stone pillars.
Function: naval logistics, ink-based illusions, grappling, battlefield control.
Virtues: adaptability, crew sync.
Vices: overconfidence, escalation.
Status: Gate drowned and warped. Only those "in rhythm" can find it; Killer B qualifies. Deep lore is highly classified.
Kuji-in Seal:Retsu (烈) — Space-Time and Unity
Connection: This seal is often associated with "splitting" or mastering the physical environment. It matches the Octopus Domain's focus on battlefield control, grappling, and ink-based illusions. It is the "rhythm" that allows Killer B and Gyūki to act as a unified, adaptive force.
Sign IX – Heaven Fox (Kyūbi Sign)
Great Domain: Toad Domain – Mount Myōboku
Bijū: Kurama.
Home: Konoha.
Gate: canonical frog sage mountain.
Function: senjutsu, chakra amplification, spatio-temporal hops, trickster miracles.
Virtues: bonds, stubborn hope, empathy-driven leadership.
Vices: pride, martyr complex.
Status: Prime Gate fully active; most visible of remaining Legendary Three. Has become "the" summon realm in common memory, erasing the other six.
Kuji-in Seal:Zen (前) — Enlightenment and Self-Control
Connection: As the highest level of the Kuji-in, Zen represents invisibility, miracles, and the illumination of the self. This aligns with the Toad Domain's senjutsu and "trickster miracles". It is the "stubborn hope" that bridges the gap between the swamp and the divine, allowing Naruto to wrangle the Fox's destructive illusion into balanced sagehood.
