Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: The Circus of Chaos

Dianna's POV

I drove us to the circus, and we alighted from the car.

"Seems our dear Guardian is pretty popular," Eric said as we pushed through the crowd at the entrance.

"If any of these bloody fools bump into me again, I will burn them alive!" Ivan snapped.

"Why can't we just kill our way through the crowd and get to the darn Guardian?" Gia asked.

"You think I haven't thought of such an easy as pie solution? This is a city. There are humans around. And with humans come cops and government. Unless you want to kill everyone in the city, shut it and push through quietly. We're almost in," I said.

"I wouldn't mind killing everyone in the city instead," Ivan muttered.

"Perhaps, it won't be the first time we completely annihilate a city," Eric added.

"For the first time since we met today, Eric, you're finally saying something sensible," Gia said.

"Any one of you know what being civilised means? No? Didn't think so." I shook my head in discontent.

We finally got through the crowd.

"Finally," I sighed.

We made our way to the front seats, but security stopped us.

"Do you have a golden ticket?" he asked.

"What?"

"You need a golden ticket to be at the first row of seats, ma'am. Do you all have one?"

A sudden flash of lightning cracked outside, followed by screams.

"Wait here," the security officer said and ran out.

"Excellent job, Eric," I said. "I was almost going to rip out his throat."

"Umm….who just spoke about being civilized?" Gia asked.

"Killing is therapy for me, sister. Never emulate me," I replied as we sat in the front row.

"The show should begin anytime soon," I said.

"Are we here to watch this inane circus show or to carry out an execution?" Ivan asked.

"We have to watch this inane show if we want an audience with The Guardian. And we are not here to execute anyone. This is supposed to be a little confrontation, one where we simply request our dear Guardian to break her curse. So I won't have to continue the lifetime torture of hearing you three rant about how you crave killing someone every day."

"Oh, continue the charade of being the decent elder sister, but we all know you're the worst of us when you lose control," Eric said, and I smiled.

"Silence, Eric. The show is starting."

The theater went silent. The curtains opened. Performers rushed onto the stage doing all sorts of acrobatics.

Two people in archaic clothing, apparently posing as a couple, entered. They danced, performed stunts, then tried to open a mysterious door placed onstage.

"If they don't end this darn show soon, I will transform this theater into a massacre house," Ivan muttered.

The couple finally succeeded in opening the door, but a woman suddenly emerged. The couple went flying to the ground.

"That's not some ordinary circus trick. That's real magic," Gia said.

Performers dressed like monsters tried to escape through the door, but the woman raised a hand, sending them flying back. One of the monster like figures grabbed her, dragging her behind the door as it slammed shut.

The audience clapped and cheered.

"What the heck?! There wasn't even a tad of creativity in that show," Eric said.

"Are you here to enjoy a dumb circus show, Eric?" Gia retorted.

"Did you guys not see that?" I asked.

"See what?"

"The show. Didn't you realize it? What was showcased shares clear similarities with what happened centuries ago. Our parents were looking for more power, so...."

"They tried to open the Hell Gate, which in this show was represented by the door," Eric added.

"The Guardian is the woman. She stopped it and closed the gate, losing herself in the process," Ivan said.

"And she knows we're here," I said, rising from my seat.

"Where are you going?" Eric asked.

"Well, do you plan on sitting here all day? We have an impending murder to carry out," I said.

"Thought you said we aren't killing anyone," Gia said.

"Well, if she doesn't cooperate, she will meet death, and I'll make sure of it."

"I absolutely love this side of you, sister," Ivan said as we walked backstage.

We trailed the performers until they all went into a room.

"Ready?" I asked as we stood before the door.

"I was born ready," Eric said. Ivan smirked.

I pushed the door open.

The Guardian sat in the center of the room, surrounded by her performers.

"The cursed Ravensons," she said with a smile. "I was expecting your arrival."

"Oh, how we searched for you for centuries. We thought the one who cursed us was dead. But here you are, in flesh and blood," I said.

"Not for long!" Gia snapped as she charged toward her, but the performers blocked her path.

"Oh please," Gia scoffed. "You think they can stop me? You think they can stop us?"

"They are all powerful witches," the Guardian said calmly. "To get to me, you must go through them."

"Have it your way then," Eric said, joining his twin.

I moved to join them, but Ivan grabbed my arm.

"I think the kids can handle this," he said.

"Come on, pretty witches!" Eric smirked.

"Your end is calling," Gia hissed.

The witches charged at them. Eric hurled several away with lightning. Gia froze many more.

But plenty remained.

"They're too many for them, Ivan. Remove one of your gloves and help them," I said.

"What? Do you remember what happened last time I removed it? You want me to burn the whole city down?" he said.

I sighed. "Fine, coward. Since you're so afraid of your powers, I'll help them myself."

I stepped forward, but a witch's spell struck me, throwing me across the room.

"Oh oh…. bad move, I tell ya. You're all gonna die now," Ivan muttered.

A burning anger flared inside me. Flames erupted from my body, twisting into the form of a phoenix that loomed over me.

Gia and Eric immediately backed away as I walked forward.

With a single wave of my hand, every witch before me went up in flames. Fire burst from my mouth, consuming anything and everything.

I wanted to stop... but I couldn't.

Eric's POV

"We have to stop her, or she'll burn down the whole theater!" Gia yelled.

"Where's the Guardian?" I asked. "I can't see her through all this chaos."

"I'll go find her. If she slipped out, she couldn't have gone far," Ivan said before running off.

"And what do we do?" Gia asked.

"Well…. try to stop your out of control sister from burning the place down. And uh…. I know you guys hate each other, but stay off each other's throats," Ivan said as he disappeared.

"So how do we stop her, sister?" I asked.

"I am not your sister!" Gia yelled as she sprinted toward Dianna.

"Dianna! Stop! You're burning down the whole place!" she screamed.

Dianna turned toward her.

"This is bad," I muttered.

Flames shot from Dianna's mouth. I lunged, knocking Gia out of the way before the ground she'd stood on a second ago erupted in fire.

"Get off me!" she snapped, pushing me aside.

"You're welcome," I said.

"It's not like I was going to die anyway," she muttered.

We stood. The room was engulfed in flames. Dianna tore through the theater, setting everything ablaze.

"She's going to burn everyone," Gia said as we ran after her.

"And to think she was the one lecturing us about not causing trouble," I grumbled.

The crowd spotted Dianna and screamed, rushing for the exits. Dianna turned toward them.

"Protect them. I'll stop her," I told Gia. She nodded.

Gia stepped between Dianna and the fleeing crowd. Her eyes glowed icy blue as a wall of ice formed before them.

Dianna hurled fireballs at it, cracking the ice.

"Hey! Sister! Look at me! Over here!" I shouted.

She didn't react.

"HEY!" I blasted her with a small bolt of lightning. She whipped around, angrier than before.

"Oh boy…."

I ran. She chased me, everything behind her exploding in flames.

"Fine. If talking won't bring you back, maybe lightning will."

I stopped and faced her. My eyes turned white. She threw flames at me, engulfing me completely. My skin burned, but I felt no pain, only anger.

Thunder cracked outside. Lightning surged from my body, striking every surface.

Dianna's power was spiraling out of control.... and mine was slipping.

I tried focusing the lightning on her alone, but she kept igniting everything around us.

Growling, I intensified my attack, pouring everything into stopping her.

For a moment, she halted. But the flames around her roared higher....

And before I could say Jack Robinson....

The whole theater exploded.
