Chapter 22 - The Famous Battle - Part 3

Minerva wasn't just any police officer. Her family came from a long lineage of the police force. Justice and the will to serve were engraved in their bloodline.

Her mother was one of the Police Chiefs, a highly decorated woman known for righteousness and honesty.

She stood her ground in the face of Federation corruption until two years ago, when she was murdered in cold blood on her way home.

According to the investigation, the murderers were from the Nightgate Cabal.

With the loss of her mother, Minerva vowed to end the Nightgate Cabal and every evil organization.

To avenge her mother's death, she trained vigorously every day, and she became cold and ruthless toward anyone connected to dark organizations.

When she embraced her profession, this further intensified her conviction in her cause.

Every evil force must be destroyed.

And necromancers were believed to be evil. Thus, her hatred for the silver-haired boy had reached its peak.

"Retreat!" she commanded as she parried a skeleton's claw before delivering a clean strike.

Bang!

The skeletons fell, shattering to pieces, but her face showed no joy. When they came to arrest Thoren Starfall, they were fifteen powerful awakeners, but now.

Half of them had been killed and turned into undead servants.

On the muddy street, fifteen Level 8 skeletons charged forward, fighting the police officers.

Looking at the army of skeletons, all the awakeners watching the battle were stunned.

Jaws dropped.

Faces tightened.

Eyes widened.

Many questions surfaced in their minds, but no one could come up with the right answer.

Thoren Starfall had become an enigma that was impossible to fathom.

Spies from various guilds watched and reported to their guild masters. Dark organizations were paying attention to the battle.

To be precise, to Thoren Starfall.

However, Thoren did not care about the hidden movements circling around him.

For him to have a strong foothold in the abyss, he knew he must display uncanny strength that would make those who entertain evil thoughts about him think twice.

Just then, something shocking appeared on the street. The skeletons moved two and three at a time to attack their target.

Watching the sudden shift in the battle, everyone couldn't help but be stunned.

"What in heaven's name is happening?" a voice exclaimed.

Thoren, however, did not show any change in his expression. His mind was focused on coordinating his skeletons.

"This…" Minerva could not believe her eyes as she was attacked by three skeletons at the same time.

Bang! Bang!

She parried the continuous assaults of the skeletons' claws while retreating, but the skeletons did not give her any chance to counterattack or rest.

Ahhhh!

Although she was a Level 10 Elementalist, against the relentless and ruthless Level 8 skeletons, her power was not enough.

A deep gash appeared on her thigh, blood gushing out like a broken dam. Her face pale, breathing erratic.

She gritted her teeth and drew on the wind element to retreat from the skeletons' encampment.

Although she was fortunate and strong enough to escape the skeletons' encampment, her fellow officers were not.

Ahhh! Ahhh!

A sturdy boy with a rectangular heavy shield cried in pain. He was a Level 8 Warden. He had been pivotal in the battle, but now...

Thud!

His heavy shield fell to the ground, blood gushing from his mouth. His right arm and right leg had been severed from his body, leaving a deep hole in his chest.

Wardens were a rare profession, and whenever they appeared, all the powerful forces were fighting for them.

But watching one die so miserably made many shudders.

Thoren watched the battle unfold as his minions delivered their brutal force.

[Undead Summoning]

[Bone Manipulation.]

On the open street, everyone saw the dead Warden rise back to his feet, his severed arm and leg rejoined.

"Oh my God!"

"How is this possible!"

"This is evil!"

Thoren was unfazed by their comments, as he commanded the Warden to join the battle.

With a strong shield, it moved forward.

Seeing the fellow comrade turned to skeletons, the few police who were barely hanging on to their lives shivered.

Previously, they had seen skeletons dragging the corpse of their fallen comrade back to Thoren, but they never thought he would turn them into undead.

Ahhh! Ahhh!

The Skeleton Warden changed the course of the battle. In less than a minute, two more officers were killed.

Just like before, Thoren turned them into undead servants.

His confidence and the brutal display of his necromancy made many shudders.

Necromancers had seemed weak at the earlier stage. Apart from their ability to communicate with the dead and gain dark power through sacrifices, no one thought of them as anything special.

But now…

Minerva shuddered; her previous confidence was gone as she watched the horror unfold.

She looked at her dead fellow comrade rushing toward her, and her heart couldn't help but skip a beat.

Fear gripped her heart like a vise.

She gathered every ounce of power in her body to cast her movement spell.

"Swift Breeze Steps."

She left behind a sharp breeze as she escaped with all her might. All her comrades had fallen, now undead servants, and were pointing their weapons at her.

She knew staying behind would mean only one thing—death.

She had come boldly, ready to fight for justice, but was now fleeing with her tail between her legs.

Standing at the center of the street, Thoren stood unmoved, his expression cold, devoid of any emotion.

Skeletons surrounded him, giving the people the impression of the Skeleton King.

He had made a name for himself, a name that would be remembered for a very long time.
