Chapter 39 - Chapter 39 Dragon Training

Your Majesty, those are your Dragons; we wouldn't dare drive them away with ballistas!"

The patrolman explained helplessly.

"But under the watchful eyes of all, the news of evil Dragons eating people is already spreading like wildfire across the Narrow Sea, and this might be detrimental to you!"

Magister Illyrio hurried forward to report.

Ever since he became Viserys Targaryen's Master of Coin, he had diligently managed the City-State of Pentos's assets for Viserys Targaryen.

With the addition of the Unsullied Army, Viserys Targaryen's power had greatly increased, and the fertile lands of the border region had long been incorporated into the City-State of Pentos.

Their territory had even expanded near Norvos; if not for the fear of sneak attacks from the Dothraki army, which would leave his army unable to cover both ends, Viserys Targaryen would have fought them again no matter what.

"They? Who are they?"

Viserys Targaryen frowned uneasily.

He did not have enough budget to build a large Dragonpit.

But as long as the Dragons were well-fed, under the care of the Dragon Guard, they generally would not actively attack human city-states.

"There's also Princess Dany's Merias, Prince Aegon's Greywing, Rhaenys's Bloodworm... even the little dwarf Dragons have gone to the city for a team-building event!"

Facing Viserys Targaryen's questioning, Magister Illyrio rolled his eyes and said helplessly.

Now it wasn't just a simple matter of Dragons eating people!

These Dragons, emboldened by the soldiers' reluctance to harm them, were utterly lawless.

They actually treated the people of the City-State of Pentos as their self-service buffet, feasting to their heart's content, which was simply outrageous!

"Damn it!"

Hearing this, Viserys Targaryen's face turned as cold as ice.

The reputation as a wise king he had painstakingly accumulated over several years was so easily destroyed by these Dragons.

Dragons eating people was not a rare occurrence!

Except for members of the Targaryen Family with Dragon blood, all other humans were no different from cattle and sheep in the eyes of Dragons.

During the reign of the Targaryen Dynasty, such incidents often occurred.

Later, to protect the people of King's Landing, King Jaehaerys spent a huge sum to build a Dragonpit that could restrain the Dragons' movements.

"Go!"

Viserys Targaryen mounted his warhorse and galloped towards the City-State of Pentos without looking back... Looking at the ravaged, smoke-filled, and apocalyptic-like city, Viserys Targaryen was furious!

As far as the eye could see, several Hatchling Dragons wantonly spewed Dragonflame, playing with the defending soldiers and people as if they were toys.

Some Hatchling Dragons even started a mode of slaughtering soldiers, like a cat toying with a mouse!

"Sunfyre!"

Viserys Targaryen roared in anger.

He had worked so hard to expand his territory and govern his people, yet his mount had become a spoiled second-generation Dragon!

Normally, it would either take the other Dragons around to eat, drink, and cause mischief, or disappear for months at a time.

If it weren't for their youth and their scales not being strong enough to withstand large ballista shots, Viserys Targaryen would have ridden them to conquer all corners of the world long ago!

Seeing Viserys Targaryen's rage, Sunfyre awkwardly lowered its head, shook it, and coyly snuggled into Viserys Targaryen's arms, feeling guilty!

"Hmph!"

Looking at this scamp who knew it was in the wrong, Viserys Targaryen was almost amused by his anger!

He hadn't even figured out how to punish it, and it had already become aggrieved and thrown itself into his arms!

Every time it committed a transgression, it tried to use this method to avoid punishment!

"More trouble than it's worth!"

In an instant, Viserys Targaryen's anger completely vanished.

As a Dragonrider, to Viserys, Sunfyre was not a beast; it was more like his family and child.

Viserys Targaryen would never learn from Daenerys Targaryen and lock it in a dungeon.

But looking at the city ravaged by the Dragons, Viserys Targaryen knew that if he didn't handle it properly, he would completely lose the hearts of all the people of Pentos.

Because besides Dragon blood, he was also a living human being.

"Just eating won't do; today you must atone for your misdeeds!"

Viserys Targaryen dismounted, patted Sunfyre's shining golden scales, and scolded him with a smile.

Hearing this, Sunfyre cooperatively shook its head and lay down on the ground.

Looking at the fearsome Dragon scales covered with countless barbs, Viserys Targaryen smiled faintly, then climbed onto the Dragon's back, using the spinal bones on the scales as handholds.

"Take off!"

Viserys Targaryen's eyes fixed forward, and he shouted loudly in the purest Valyrian language.

In an instant, Sunfyre spread its wings, and its body, like a rising golden sun, shot straight into the sky!

Whoosh!

With Sunfyre leading the way, the other wild Dragons also took flight.

Several Dragons of various colors and sizes followed Sunfyre's lead, flying towards the Narrow Sea.

The ancient, unchanging deep blue Narrow Sea swallowed the sky, and as far as the eye could see, there was water everywhere!

Viserys Targaryen sat at the rugged base of "Sunfyre's" neck.

Through the thick leather breeches, he could even clearly feel the scorching heat of the Dragon blood surging within Sunfyre beneath him.

Dragons are creatures of blood and fire, truly!

Behind him, several Dragons flew low, their huge shadows almost obscuring the sea surface.

Viserys Targaryen, riding the golden Sunfyre, circled high above, like a blazing sun over the ice fields, impossible to look at directly.

"Not enough."

Viserys Targaryen released one hand that was gripping the saddle ring and murmured in his heart.

"Dive!"

The next moment, his command, carrying an undeniable will, cut through the sky.

Sunfyre beneath him let out a deafening roar, then its wings suddenly folded, like a giant golden arrow, plummeting towards the sparkling sea surface.

The immense feeling of weightlessness forced Viserys Targaryen to grip the Dragon saddle tightly.

The next moment, the sea below suddenly became chaotic, with a large group of startled whales leaping out of the water.

Just a moment before Sunfyre's talons were about to touch the waves, Viserys Targaryen sharply tugged the reins.

"Ascend!"

Sunfyre's massive wings spread with effort, and the powerful updraft lifted it and its rider, its Dragon belly almost scraping the churning white foam of the sea as it pulled up.

And at this very moment, the wild Dragons following closely behind had not received the command to stop; they plunged headfirst into the center of the fish school.

"Boom—!"

The seawater exploded, forming temporary cavities.

Before the salty seawater could cascade down like a waterfall, smoothing over the holes in the sea, the wild Dragons spread their wings again and burst through the surface.

Immediately after, a searing orange light flashed, and the Dragonflame instantly cooked their food.

With a tilt of their thick necks, they swallowed the mouthfuls of whale flesh and blood whole.
