Cherreads

Chapter 21 - Ch. 20: Noise

By nightfall, everyone in the palace seeks Alice's whereabouts, both of her parents, Gerald, who exerts all his familiarity as Summoner, the maid led by Annastasia, junior knights, seniors, and the elite are deployed to find out where the daughters of Ren and Luna go.

Not only that, Lisa searched for Alice's whereabouts with Eri, thinking that Edi had started acting so she secretly stole a sharp look at her. When Edi realizes Lisa's golden eyes' sharp gaze, Lisa immediately continues her search without the need to draw Edi's suspicion.

"How? He said, "Did you find anything?" He said, "I have no authority over any of the knights who came to report it.

"There's no Alice-same around town, Your Majesty. Other troops had also walked through dry sewers, small alleys, and even some abandoned houses but no Alice-sama was found."

Angered by not finding the whereabouts of his favorite grandson, Arga ordered them again.

"Quickly search again! I'm just afraid that my grandson has been kidnapped or taken hostage!"

"Fine."

Behind Arga, Luna was seen worried about Alice's condition because she did not think that her daughter had disappeared for long enough than usual. Afraid that someone kidnapped Alice and then took her hostage to ask for ransom by blackmailing them. Otherwise, Alice will be killed.

On Luna's side, Ren calms Luna by rubbing her right shoulder, with his little smile he speaks sincerely to her.

"Don't worry, I'm sure our daughter's fine."

"You don't understand about our daughter, sweetheart!"

"Eh?"

Instead of being calm, Luna instead bursts her emotions into sadness at Ren.

"If our daughter is anything then I will fail as a mother."

There was fear in Luna's trembling voice, by being forced to hug her while swiping Luna's blonde butterfly haircut hair, not to calm her down or be sad, but to convince her.

"Take it easy, I'm sure our daughter's fine."

"Why... Why can you be so sure?" Luna looked at Ren, showing curiosity about why her husband didn't look worried, scared and panicked.

Ren could not have said that he knew from the knight that his daughter did physical training such as jogging in the front yard of the palace, fearing that Luna, his wife would worry about the condition of her daughter doing this.

Enforcedly, Ren lied with a mask of a charming smile on his wife to make her confident with his words.

"That's because she is our daughter. After all, how can our daughter be anything since Father-in-law loves her, right?"

"Yes, you're right."

What Ren said was right.

Arga, Luna's father loves and loves Alice as his granddaughter. He don't think it's possible to let anyone do something bad to her. If anyone does, sooner or later the knights know who did it.

"This is really weird."

It was not discovered by Gerald's whereabouts, that even his familiar could not figure out where the little girl was.

"Could Mr. Edi have done his bidding?"

Anxiety at a glance is seen behind a serious face mask with Gerald's squinty eyes. In a way, he doesn't want to believe that Alice suddenly disappears without a trace because Edi eliminated him. But, if he believes then he must have evidence pointing to Edi.

"Duh. I've been working out a lot of practice for you, Alice."

Unlike Gerald, there was disappointment and sadness in Lisa's heart.

At first Lisa thought that Alice would come to her room after breakfast, she had prepared a special light exercise for Alice because she had less capacity than the others. However, Alice does not seem to upset Lisa at all, although she is also worried that something bad might happen to the little girl who becomes her daughter's friend.

"It's strange," thought Edi, helping with the search.

Whereas as Edi remembers, he hasn't ordered his subordinates to eliminate or kidnap Alice. Even if he had sent the three of them, maybe they just kidnapped to ask Alice to make Ken his fiancée.

If Alice doesn't want to, that's when Edi decides to eliminate the little girl to get hid son on the throne.

"Hopeful she's fine," Edi thought again, with a sad face because Luna, the person she once loved, was worried about her daughter's condition.

In his ego, Edi wanted to have power as heir to the next throne if his son became the next king. Not only will the city be in power, it will also have abundant wealth in the castle just like the previous king and queen.

But, for his heart there was no heart when he saw Luna like that.

"Hopefully Alice is all right," thought Ken, as well as worrying over what would happen to Alice later.

Back that night, the night that Edi talked to all three of his subordinates in his room in the middle of the night through Ken's perspective.

At that time, Ken was out of his room to pee. But unintentionally, he heard a voice in the next room, his father's room heard a slow conversation.

"It can't be allowed!" Edi insisted from the inside, his expression filled with anger that exploded as he imagined his son's future was not taken.

"If my son can't be her fiancée, I'm forced to kidnap her to negotiate. If she don't want to, I'll use a way to get rid of her."

Ken who heard from the outside, his heart ached to hear that his own father would do that to Alice.

He doesn't understand why Edi would want to do such a cruel thing for himself. Though he was enough to be a knight, not to love her but to admire her. Two things are different from each other.

Even if Ken really likes Alice, how could he reveal it to his for fear that the girl did not like his but instead considered his as friend? If that happens, Ken is not sure if he can be considered a friend anymore after expressing his feelings to Alice as a friend or even being awkward.

Whatever it is, the thought of Alice liking it is unthinkable for Ken. Ken just adores her, not love her. That's Ken's view of Alice.

"But, if your son finds out?"

"We can't let my son know!" he emphasized, his high tone showed that there was resentment when he imagined his son knowing this.

Not only hatred, there is also resentment shown by Ken to him that he imagined when he found out about this to his father.

But Edi doesn't know that Ken heard it from outside.

Ken, who does not understand the reason for what his father did to him, is still too innocent to know about the power and wealth his father wanted by utilizing his son.

It's just that Ken's determination to show through the look in his eyes is that he can't stay still. He had to do something to make his dream come true. In order to protect the people he admires, not as heroes or loved ones but as her knights.

That way, Ken went to pee in the toilet which happened to be still around the lodging area.

"I'll be sure to protect you, Alice!"

Both his hands clenched strongly suggest that Ken's determination was merely to protect Alice from danger as a knight. Even if he could, he also wanted to be a sword and shield for her even though it would hinder his father's purpose.

That's what Ken remembered at the time.

"I hope my father's haven't done it yet. If he had done so, I would not have forgiven him!"

His persistence was strong to protect Alice, and he did not care whether he would become a rebellious child against his father, the only remaining parent or not.

As long as he sees the fragile and weak little girl enjoying her daily life as usual, Ken doesn't mind. Even if faced with the choice of choosing to take sides with his father or Alice when he grows up, he takes sides with Alice more because she is innocent, while his father has done evil.

After a long search of Alice, everyone gathered in the front yard of the palace.

"How did this happen?"

"There's no way my daughter just disappeared, something must have happened."

When hearing Luna and Ren's words, Lisa and Gerald accidentally glance at Edi and turn their eyes before Edi and they find out what the two are seeing.

"They look strange."

"Yes, I agree."

Somehow Eri and Ken can communicate through their minds as if there was something that Lisa, Eri's mother, and Gerald, the king's advisor, saw Ken's father, Edi.

Indeed, Ken already knew it but he didn't think anyone else knew it either. Meanwhile, Eri, she wonders why her mother is close to Gerald, the king's advisor. It's not like her mother usually does as if there's something to hide.

"Mom, is there something you're not telling me?"

Being approached by Lisa with a plain face, there is curiosity in Eri's expression.

Knowing that her daughter was curious, Lisa shook her head and crouched down to be as tall as her daughter and stroked her hair.

"I have nothing to hide, sweetheart."

"But I looked close to Uncle Gerald earlier."

Surprised to hear her daughter say this, Lisa shows her a bitter smile to convince her even though she doubts this can make her calm rather than curious.

"That's... We're just–"

"We're just talking about work. Isn't that right, Miss Lisa?"

"Yeah, pretty much."

Eri pays close attention to her mother's attitude, but she does not know when her mother is that close to another man like Gerald. Thinking that it would hurt her father, Vincent, who she thought was traveling all over the world as an adventurer.

Not only Eri, but everyone who noticed this was also confused.

"Can they have feelings?"

"Where is there, isn't there?"

"Then, why did they get along?"

"No way, right?"

"Then, why did they get along?"

"I don't know!"

The aristocrats who heard this, they whispered to each other as if this was common to Lisa, but not to Gerald.

Because as far as the male nobility knew, Gerald always seemed friendly, thoughtful, and generous with no interest in other women among the nobility besides devoting himself to the king, Arga.

"That woman seems to be flirting with Gerald-san."

"Yeah, she's shameless to do it."

Another whisper was heard softly by the nobles of the women against their neighbors.

According to them, Lisa should not go too far in flirting with any man, especially Gerald, the king's advisor. True, they think Lisa's body is more seductive than they are with her beautiful face, her naughty, seductive attitude. Anyone will fall for Lisa when they're teased by her.

However, they did not know that Lisa and Gerald's close relationship was limited to cooperation. Lisa is willing to help her teach Alice about magic, whether or not to enlarge Mana in little girl's body. As for Gerald, he will do what suits him in the shadows without anyone's knowledge.

"Forget about it! If we don't keep looking, there's a chance my granddaughter is in danger!"

"Fine."

Hearing the firmness of Arga made the other nobles shocked to realize that they again split up to look for Alice.

At around 10:00 PM, one of the senior knights came while holding a little blonde butterfly-haired haircut whose white skin had deep scratches on her left hand, right leg, and some bruises on both cheeks, breathing heavily while unconscious.

"Your Majesty, I see your granddaughter in the woods."

That little girl is none other than Alice who's being held by him right now.

Knowing that his granddaughter was injured, an angry expression was seen on Arga's face. He was upset, hated and confused how his granddaughter, Alice, could get hurt like this.

"Lisa!" he shouted in a high tone, leaving everyone searching the area around the castle in confusion staring at the angry Arga.

"What is it, Your Majesty?"

"Please take my granddaughter to be treated and healed."

"Fine."

Carried away by Lisa, Alice is taken unconscious with scratches on one of her hands and feet deep enough, her bruised face makes anyone think it's cruel to do so by others.

"My dear..."

Even Luna, who watched her daughter in that condition, fainted. Before she falls to the surface, Ren immediately catches her and holds her.

"Father-in-law, I'll take my wife to her room."

"Yes."

Receiving permission from Arga, Ren rushed into the palace to put Luna, his wife in her room so that she could rest from her mental fatigue of seeing her daughter like that.

"Why is my daughter like that? Could someone do it?" Ren thought, as he walked into the lobby and up the stairs to the second floor, he kept his wife in his arms.

While outside the palace, Arga who clenched his hands strongly, there was a sense of exploding that filled his heart as if he were in a state of anger.

"Tell the other knights to check the area around the city and the kingdom! Make sure not to let anyone who tries to hurt my granddaughters!"

"Fine," the knight trembled with Arga's wrath, he immediately bowed to return to the place where his comrades were.

Edi who witnessed it, he was also confused.

If he follows his ego, there's a sense of pleasure in what happened to Alice. But if he follows his heart, he can't bear to see Luna, who he loved, fainted after knowing her daughter like that.

Had Edi imagined that he had eliminated Luna's daughter, there is a possibility that not only Ken, his son, who hates and angry with his, but also Luna, Arga, and others would have vented their anger on Edi because it was all his fault.

They must think that if Edi killed Alice, people would consider himself cruel and heartless because they could kill a weak, fragile, six-year-old girl who couldn't protect herself.

Unlike Edi, Ken stares intently at his father who stares into the distance in an empty look with an irritated face.

As much as possible, he's holding back his anger for now not to forget his emotions for his father, not wanting everyone to know that it was his father who ordered his subordinates to do this.

"Maybe he doing this?" thought Gerald, feeling that it was too soon for Edi to do it rather than waiting for the right time to order his subordinates.

Whatever it is, Gerald doesn't tolerate if the royal bloodline is killed then he can make sure that the culprit is none other than Edi. Either way, Gerald will get the evidence so he can get Arga, the king can now punish Edi if his granddaughter really dies.
