Chapter 7 - Chapter 7

Mia stood on the balcony of her modest apartment, a stark contrast to the opulence of the penthouse she had visited just days before. She wrapped her arms around herself, feeling the cool evening breeze brush against her skin. The city buzzed below, but her mind was a whirlwind of thoughts, all centered around Ethan Sinclair.

Ethan was everything she had ever dreamed of—charismatic, intelligent, and undeniably handsome. But he was also a billionaire, a world away from her simple life as an art curator at a small gallery. Their whirlwind romance had been intoxicating, filled with lavish dinners, spontaneous trips, and whispered secrets under the stars. Yet, as the initial thrill began to fade, Mia found herself grappling with the reality of their differences.

She had spent the last few days replaying their last conversation in her mind. Ethan had been distant, his mind clearly preoccupied with business matters. When she had tried to reach out, he had brushed her off with a charming smile that didn't quite reach his eyes. It was as if a wall had gone up between them, and Mia felt the weight of it pressing down on her heart.

"Maybe it's time to let go," she whispered to herself, the words tasting bitter on her tongue. She had never been one to shy away from challenges, but the thought of losing Ethan felt like a defeat she wasn't ready to accept.

Just then, her phone buzzed on the table, breaking her reverie. She picked it up, her heart racing as she saw Ethan's name flash across the screen. With a deep breath, she answered, trying to keep her voice steady.

"Mia," he said, his voice smooth and warm, but there was an edge of tension beneath it. "Can we talk?"

"Of course," she replied, her heart pounding. "Is everything okay?"

"Yeah, I just… I've been thinking about us." There was a pause, and Mia could almost hear the gears turning in his mind. "Can I come over?"

"Sure," she said, trying to sound casual, though her stomach twisted with anticipation and anxiety.

When Ethan arrived, he looked as handsome as ever, dressed in a tailored suit that accentuated his broad shoulders. But there was a weariness in his eyes that made her heart ache. He stepped inside, and for a moment, they stood in silence, the air thick with unspoken words.

"Can I get you something to drink?" Mia offered, moving toward the kitchen to break the tension.

"Just water, please," he replied, his voice low.

As she filled a glass, she could feel his gaze on her, and it sent a shiver down her spine. She turned to face him, her heart racing. "What's on your mind, Ethan?"

He took a deep breath, running a hand through his tousled hair. "I've been so caught up in work lately. I didn't mean to pull away from you. It's just… sometimes I feel like I'm living in two different worlds."

Mia nodded, her heart sinking. "I get it. Your life is so different from mine. I don't want to be a distraction for you."

"You're not a distraction," he said quickly, stepping closer. "You're the best part of my life. But I worry that I'm not giving you what you deserve."

"What do you mean?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

"I mean, I can't always be there for you. My schedule is insane, and I don't want you to feel like you're waiting for me to have time for you." He paused, searching her eyes. "I don't want to hold you back."

Mia felt a lump form in her throat. "Ethan, I'm not asking you to change your life for me. I just want to be part of it."

He sighed, running a hand over his face. "I know, and I want that too. But I can't help but feel like I'm dragging you into a world that's not yours. You deserve someone who can be there for you, who can give you everything you want."

"Is that what you think I want?" she asked, her voice trembling. "A life of luxury and parties? I want you, Ethan. Not the billionaire lifestyle."

He stepped back, his expression conflicted. "But what if I can't be the man you need? What if I can't give you the stability you deserve?"

Mia took a deep breath, her heart aching. "Ethan, love isn't about stability. It's about connection, about being there for each other, no matter the circumstances. I don't need a perfect life; I just need you."

He looked at her, his eyes searching hers for something—hope, perhaps. But the uncertainty lingered, and Mia felt the weight of their situation pressing down on her.

"Maybe we need to take a step back," he said finally, his voice heavy with resignation. "I don't want to hurt you, and I don't want to lose you, but I can't keep pretending everything is fine when I know it's not."

Mia's heart shattered at his words. "So, what? You want to end this?"

"No, I don't want to end it," he said quickly, desperation creeping into his voice. "But maybe we need to figure out what we really want. I don't want to hold you back, Mia. You deserve to chase your dreams without worrying about me."

Tears pricked at her eyes, and she fought to keep them at bay. "And what about your dreams? Am I part of them?"

"Always," he said, stepping closer again, his voice softening. "But I need to know that you're not sacrificing your happiness for me."

Mia felt a wave of emotion wash over her. "I don't want to let go, Ethan.
