Chapter 1 - CHAPTER 1 — The Day Everything Fell Apart

Amara Danjuma stared at the termination letter in her trembling hands.

"Budget cuts," her boss had said, without even meeting her eyes.

Just like that, her only stable income was gone.

She rushed out of the office, dialing her mother's number—but no answer.

Something inside her tightened.

By the time she got to the hospital, her mother was on oxygen, the doctor shaking his head slowly.

"Miss Amara… the treatment must continue. But the bills—"

"I'll pay," she said immediately, though her account balance barely had ₦8,400 left.

As she stepped into the corridor to breathe, she accidentally collided with a tall man in a black suit.

Her phone almost fell, but strong fingers caught it midair.

"Watch where you're going," a cold voice said.

She looked up—and froze.

Ethan Blake.

The CEO everyone feared.

The billionaire trending on the news every week.

The man whose eyes were as cold as a rainy harmattan morning.

"S-Sorry," she whispered.

He didn't respond. He simply handed her the phone back, his expression unreadable, before walking into a VIP room.

Minutes later, paparazzi swarmed outside, shouting:

"ETHAN! Is it true you abandoned your fiancée?"

"Are you hiding from the scandal?"

Amara blinked. She didn't understand what was happening…

but she had a feeling this man would soon turn her life upside down.

And she was right.
