MIA'S POINT OF VIEW
The news alert popped up on my phone while I was finishing my second glass of wine.
BREAKING: Car crash on Riverside Road. One dead, one critically injured. Wife of prominent CEO Alexander Reyes among victims.
I stared at the screen, my heart pounding. Then I smiled.
It worked.
I set down my wine glass and pulled up the full article on my laptop. Details were still emerging. Elena Reyes, the wife of Alexander Reyes, had been in a serious car accident. The family driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Elena had been rushed to Memorial Hospital. Condition unknown.
I leaned back against my couch, feeling something like relief wash through me. Finally, after weeks of planning, of watching, of waiting for the perfect moment, it had actually happened.
Elena was gone. Or at least, she would be soon.
I imagined Alex at the hospital right now. Devastated. Broken. Lost. He'd need someone. Someone who understood him. Someone who'd always been there for him.
