Chapter 2 - A Strange Delivery

'Who could it be?'

Fang Raon wondered and looked for his crutches, but he forgot where he put them.

They were lying right under his bed, but he couldn't remember putting them there, and thus, he stood on his own.

It looked awkward, and he moved like his knees weren't working properly.

After arriving at the door, he made sure the chain was secure and then opened it to see who was there.

A smiling face of a delivery man greeted him, and he said.

"Hello, is this the residence of Fang Raon?"

"Yes… Who is this?"

Fang Raon asked with a frown.

"I am here to deliver a delivery for you."

The deliveryman said with a smile.

"…I haven't ordered anything."

Fang Raon said.

He could remember if he ordered anything, as he wasn't financially stable, as he was just a poor young man from the 18th floor.

The only money he had was from the weekly allowance that he received when he was still living with the Fang family.

That money wouldn't last forever, so he was definitely not planning to spend it ordering anything.

"My paperwork says that delivery is for Fang Raon. It has already been paid."

The deliveryman said.

"…What is it?"

Fang Raon asked.

"Virtual Reality Pod. It also has a game—Black Online—readily installed, and it also comes with a game card."

The deliveryman said.

"I definitely haven't ordered that."

Fang Raon said.

It would be a massive waste of money for him, as he couldn't even play Black Online because of his condition.

"…I am just doing what I am told to do. It doesn't matter if you ordered it because someone did it for you. Maybe a gift?"

The deliveryman said with a smile.

'…Maybe this is a robbery attempt? I know there has been some robbing spree going on on the fifteenth and sixteenth floors, so maybe they are expanding their territory.

'Well, there are easier ways to rob me. It is not like I can do anything to fight back.'

Fang Raon took off the chain and opened the door.

There were two deliverymen carrying a bed-sized box, and it looked heavy, but they were still carrying it with ease.

Fang Raon couldn't see it, but there were four gang members sprawled on the ground, bleeding out.

It seemed like they picked a fight with the deliverymen, but they picked a fight with the wrong people, as these deliverymen weren't someone to fuck with.

They brought the large box inside and looked for anywhere to place it, which wasn't easy in such a cramped apartment.

They eventually pushed the table aside and placed it right in the middle of the apartment.

"The delivery also came with a letter. It comes with Braille paper, so you can read it even with your impaired vision."

The deliveryman said with a smile, and they then gave their farewells as they headed out, but they didn't forget to clean up the gang members outside.

'With Braille paper? Someone who ordered this knows about my blindness. Is it from Anna? But why would she buy this for me?'

Fang Raon wondered with a frown, and he grabbed the letter, tracing his fingers across the dots on the paper.

Braille was a tactile writing system that used raised dots arranged in patterns to represent letters, numbers, and symbols.

With this, he could actually read the letter.

'…Hello, Fang Raon. I hope this letter finds you well. I've heard of your desire and your problem, and I have come up with a solution.

'…This Virtual Reality Pod is specially made. It will help with your disability, and using this, you will be able to experience Black Online in a way that everybody else can.

'Your disability won't be a problem anymore…'

Fang Raon stopped moving his fingers, and he had to gather his thoughts before shaking his head.

He thought that it must be some stupid prank, but he still read the rest of the letter.

'There will also be incentive to do your best over there. What if your syndrome can be healed? What if you can be whole again?'

'Black Online is your cure.'

'From, your admirer.'

Fang Raon sat down to sponge the information on the letter.

"It is a prank. It must be. But what if it isn't?"

He stood up from bed, took just one step, and collided accidentally with the box, as he didn't expect it to be there.

He had gotten used to the small knee-high table being there.

Fang Raon went to the kitchen, picked up a knife carefully, and cut the box open.

A shiny and brand new white Virtual Reality Pod was revealed inside, and it looked like a very high-tech device that was straight out of a sci-fi movie.

He searched for the button and soon found it.

With a button press, the pod's hatch opened up, revealing a soft and cushioned interior that looked incredibly comfortable to lie in.

Fang Raon found the game card, inserted it in the pod, and then carefully lay down inside before closing the hatch.

The pod was so comfortable that he could literally sleep inside, and it was much better than his bed.

"Ah… ahh… ah…"

He breathed roughly, trying to calm his heart rate down, and then he pressed a button that immediately took him into a deep peaceful sleep.

Black Online, Tower of the Black, Zero Floor.

From shiny pixels, a person formed, and he soon looked like Fang Raon with his usual handsome face.

His eyes made him look kind, as they were calm, round-shaped, and full of warmth.

In that moment, Fang Raon softly opened his eyes, and his heart almost burst out from his chest.

"…I can see."

He sat up, the realization hitting him like a ton of bricks, and his lips trembled, but he refused to cry.

The world around him was empty. It was just a blank white void. It still made him happy to see light.

Fang Raon stood up, and it took a moment for him to balance himself, but he then noticed that he could stand without pain.

He could move his arms and legs without the usual stiffness, and his back didn't feel like it was going to give out at any moment.

The disability was gone.

"…Hahahaha!"

Fang Raon let out a happy laugh.

In that moment, a holographic window appeared in front of him.

[Welcome, Fang Raon]
