Chapter 1 - 1

'Everyone is born equal'

Bullshit.

The ones with wealth, power, fame, and status love to say that—claiming hard work is what separates people.

Equality. Equality is a dream to comfort the masses and soothe the reckless souls.

'Everyone is born equal'

That's the funniest joke ever heard.

Regrets show how unequal this world is.

'If only I studied harder in my youth…'

'If I never gave in to that injury, I would be in the league…'

'I should have gathered some courage to ask her out, maybe now we'd be together…'

'Maybe I should have taken that job offer across the country, by now I'd be much more advanced in my career…'

People end up regretting a lot of things in their lives, some small and others not.

After years pass and they look back on their life, they think about what all could've been done differently.

People are complex.

A middle aged construction worker is living with his high school sweetheart in a cramped apartment, he got his girlfriend pregnant right after high school so they married and live paycheck to paycheck. He has breakfast with his wife and kid as he looks around his old and broken studio apartment.

If only he hadn't been a delinquent back in high school, if only he had taken his college exams more seriously, if only they had condoms that night…

The middle aged man's wife looks in the mirror and she has some wrinkles, her breast sag a bit , she has gained some fat, the cigarette smoke clings to her unkempt hair. In high school she was a true beauty that attracted people across the city dating her nerdy boyfriend, he was smart and even had a scholarship for college but she ended up being drawn to the bad boy. She sees her kid in an old school uniform then shifts her gaze to her fat and balding husband.

If only she had stayed loyal in high school, if only she hadn't fallen his looks and tricks back then… if only she had time to focus on her career instead on kids…

Regrets tend to pile up… this brings the desire for equality.

If only I had what they have… that talent, the money, the fame, the beauty. People tend to realize just how unfair this world truly is— thus regretting their past.

Equality is a joke.

Even someone with everything has something they still want, otherwise what's the point of life.

Imagine the CEOs of global corporations, they have everything and have climbed to the top of the world. Their companies are established and they have millions of employees worldwide providing their services…

But then why do they try to optimize? why do they pump billions into R&D? why do they reach even higher when their at the top?

Idiots might say it's to advance humanity, to better the lives of people, to provide for the weak.

Bullshit. That's what they say to fool the imbeciles, to give people hope of equality. They spew lies to make people cogs in their machines… replacable cogs.

To advance humanity? To better the lives of people? Hahahaha.

There is one simple reason people at the top reach higher, they even build their own steps to climb.

If they won't… someone else will! Hahaha, idiots! Do you truly think they care about you?

It's simple, if they stop building steps to climb higher… someone else will! They simply don't want to fall behind.

Those at the top reach higher because of the fear of falling behind.

Life is unfair.

Equality is such a joke.

The starting lines for people simply cannot be compared, some people start where others finish… now isn't that unfair.

The place you reached with painstaking effort, your entire life you reached for this place with blood, sweat, and tears was simply the starting point for another. The place that was out of your reach, the one you climbed to…

It was nothing more than another step in someone else's path. It was nothing but a step that someone could never even dream of reaching. It was nothing more than the first step a baby took out of their mothers womb.

Isn't that funny? The place someone wouldn't even dream of reaching was given to someone for simply being born!

This world is unfair. Equality is a joke.

'Kids who have never seen peace and kids who have never seen war have different values. Those who stand at the top determine what's wrong and what's right. This very place is neutral ground.

Justice will prevail you say… well of course it will…' ⏸️

"What the fuck are you watching brat." A middle aged construction worker said as he entered the small apartment.

"Let him watch whatever he wants on his phone, why the hell do you care anyways?" A woman in her 30s said while puffing a cigarette.

"Huh. I'm the one who pays for bills. Whatever, did you make dinner yet?" The middle aged man said as he undressed into a tank top and underwear, then he took out a beer bottle from the fridge and lit a cigarette.

"I just got back from work too! Do you really think I've had any time!" The middle aged woman retorted. She had just finished a 12 hour shift as a convenience store employee and got home minutes before he husband.

"WHAT THE FUCK? YOU USELESS BITCH! Don't you know how hard I work everyday, the least you could do is have dinner ready" the man raised his voice to almost a shout as he glared at the woman.

"Heh, if only you'd make more money! Then I would happily perform the duties of a housewife." The woman retorted while giving a cold glare to the man.

Smack.

"Do you really think I don't know who you talk to behind my back you slut!" The man slapped the woman hard across her face as he shouted angrily.

"Hah so what if you know, at least I can bring in money. I should've aborted the kid back then, I don't know what I was thinking!" The woman shouted back angrily as she pushed the man.

The man ended up slapping the around till the bruises were visible, the woman did not hold back either digger her nails into his skin and slapping him. This was not anything new in this household as the couple fought regularly, sometimes even police had to get involved. It finally ended when the woman realized the time and quickly went to touch up her makeup hiding the bruises before going out in a skimpy outfit.

The man looked at the boy in the corner, the boy simply watched… he did not cry or run. The video on his phone was paused but then the man came closer till he stood over the boy. He proceeded to kick the boy in his stomach before saying,

"Tch. I wish I never got involved with that bitch, go make some ramen brat." The man's cold voice did not care about the boys well being, the bruises on the boy made that clear.

At first the boy did not move, he simply sat and watched the man. This clearly pissed the man off as he proceeded to kick the boy again before picking him up by his arm and slapping him again,

"Why the hell are you looking at me? Didn't I say to make some ramen? If that bitch never came into my life… I was an heir to an origin clan…" The man's voice carried hints of sadness, his eyes seemed to remember something in the past longing for it.

The boy simply got up, went to get his phone and wired headphones as he started making dinner for 3. The boy did not complain, there was barely any emotion on his face but there was a deep sadness in his eyes… barely noticeable.

'Today was my birthday… no one remembered. I think I turned 8 this year.' The boy thought in his mind then shifted his attention to the anime he was watching. The anime was supposedly a timeless classic, one that everyone would recognize worldwide… he pressed play.

▶️ 'Whoever wins the war… becomes justice.'

Regrets never disappear. People cannot go back in time. The choices that people make are permanent and have consequences.

Time does not wait. Tic tok tic tok. Tic. Tok. Time moves in one direction.

Stop dreaming about going back in time to change your life.

WAKE UP.
