Grace's eyes widened as she stared at Grey, bewildered by his reaction.
Why's he acting so jumpy over two cheap rings? she wondered.
"Dude, what's your deal? They're just rings that tumbled out of your jacket when Grace was helping you," Tate chimed in, confusion lacing his voice.
Grace put on her most innocent expression. "I'm so sorry, Grey. I was just trying to hang up your suit, and they slipped out. I didn't mean to upset you."
Her apology was calculated—she needed to understand why these simple bands had rattled him so badly.
Grey clamped his mouth shut, his jaw working silently.
He'd convinced himself these rings meant nothing—just cheap metal he'd grabbed for a quick wedding years ago. Throughout their entire marriage, he'd barely given them a second thought. Hell, he'd only remembered they existed when he'd stumbled across them in some forgotten drawer.
