Evelin's POV
Grace's cheeks burned red with humiliation and fury. "Evelin, everybody knows I rescued Grey. You can't just invalidate that by putting on this ridiculous show!"
"Invalidate? You're not worth the effort." I hauled Grace back toward the shoreline, then pushed her away from me.
Grace tumbled clumsily onto the beach sand.
Grit stuck to her wet skin, coating her face and tangling in her hair, while her soaked clothing made her look completely bedraggled.
My own clothes were damp too, but I remained perfectly composed, radiating calm control.
"This won't change anything. Grey has faith in me!"
Grace scrambled to her feet and turned to Grey. "Grey, tell her I'm right!"
That seemed to jolt Grey back to the present.
Meeting Grace's hopeful gaze, he clenched his jaw and declared, "Yes, I trust Grace!"
The reality was, he'd made his choice to believe her long before now.
