"Grey, what's that supposed to mean? You're doubting me because of whatever Evelin spouted before she walked out?" Grace's voice carried both hurt and fury.
"I'm not accusing you of anything. I just need to understand what really happened back then!" Grey responded hastily.
Grace feigned outrage. "What happened is crystal clear! I spotted you in that river and pulled you out. The ambulance rushed you to the hospital where you got the treatment you needed. Everyone witnessed it!"
Her palms grew slick with nervous sweat, betraying her inner turmoil.
Grey pressed his lips together. True, plenty of people had seen it happen. He shouldn't be questioning it.
Still, Evelin's expression when she'd spoken those parting words haunted him.
She'd been so confident, so revolted.
As if she truly had been his rescuer.
"I never mentioned to Evelin that I'd fallen in the river or been stabbed eight times. Yet somehow she knew," Grey stated.
