Evelin's POV
Thorne's scream pierced the air as her hands clawed desperately for anything to break her fall.
My reflexes kicked in, and I lunged forward, catching her wrist just in time.
Thorne stared up at me in disbelief before bursting into maniacal laughter. "Ha! Even when I'm trying to murder you, you still have to save me, don't you? Because I'm the only shot Alice has!"
My face remained stone-cold. She wasn't wrong—only Thorne could save Alice. Which meant I couldn't let her die, no matter how much I wanted to.
"But saving me won't change anything! You're still going to die!" Thorne's eyes locked onto the ruby necklace hanging at my throat, then she raised her weapon again, pointing it directly at my chest.
At this range, she wouldn't miss. Even if I released her, she'd just tumble down the stairs with some bruises—nothing life-threatening.
As long as I was dead, Thorne could rip that ruby necklace right off my neck.
