Selina spun around to find Jaxson just steps behind her, his expression frozen in shock as he stared at her.
"Her dress got wine spilled on it, so she headed to the lounge," Selina managed, her eyes bloodshot. "I keep calling but she won't answer! I don't know if she escaped, and now I can't locate her anywhere..."
Her words tumbled out in a panicked stream, barely coherent by the end.
"Rey, release me! I have to find Evelin, I must—"
Selina's voice cracked with desperate urgency.
Rey struck the back of Selina's neck, cutting her words short as she went limp, collapsing unconscious in his arms.
Rey gazed down at the tear stains on Selina's cheeks.
He understood perfectly—if anything had truly happened to Evelin, Selina would likely never forgive him for holding her back.
Still, he couldn't allow her to charge recklessly into harm's way. All he could do was hope Evelin would emerge safely.
Rey felt certain Evelin possessed the skills to escape a fire.
