Evelin's POV
Jaxson's stare felt distant, almost cold. "So what? Even if I actually am your brother, what difference does it make?"
"I need you to take back your real name—Rex," I said, my voice barely holding steady. "Whatever memories you've lost, I'll help you recover them, piece by piece."
His eyes dropped, and when he finally spoke, his words came out like a confession. "I can't recall who I used to be. All I remember is surviving each day in Thornvale—getting beaten, abused, forced into things that made my skin crawl.
"Even when I managed to escape, I was barely hanging on. During those days... I was completely alone. No family to speak of."
The only exception was Alice. She was his lifeline, the one who kept pulling him back from the edge, again and again.
"I've been hunting for you this entire time!" My voice cracked as the words tumbled out. I'd pictured my brother wandering Thornvale with no memory, but hearing it from his lips felt like a knife twisting in my chest.
