Evelin's POV
We locked eyes, neither of us moving.
The atmosphere grew thick with tension.
Jimmy bent closer to me, his gaze never wavering. "Or maybe you despise me?" he murmured.
Those eyes, typically as motionless as stagnant water, now held subtle waves that seemed almost hypnotic.
"I don't despise you!" I arched my brow, holding his stare.
I clarified, "But listen, I just ended my marriage, and right now I have zero interest in falling for anyone.
Plus, you haven't fallen for me either, right?"
"What if I did fall for you? Would you fall for me then?" Jimmy pressed.
His question caught me off guard. I wondered, 'What's he getting at?'
I replied, "Didn't I just tell you I have no plans to fall for anyone? So even if you did fall for me, I wouldn't fall for you!"
"What about down the road? Would you fall for someone eventually?"
Jimmy pushed further.
"Nobody can predict the future!" I stated.
