Max's POV
Blood coated my claws as my chest heaved with each ragged breath. The metallic scent of death hung thick in the air around us. Then everything stopped.
An iron rod came crashing down beside me, splitting open a rogue's skull with a sickening crack. The weapon dragged against stone as a figure emerged from the shadows.
Alpha Mateo.
His naked form was painted with crimson streaks and torn flesh that belonged to others. Not a single scratch marked his skin. Behind him stretched a trail of lifeless bodies, rogues who had been foolish enough to cross his path.
But there was no time to comprehend what we were witnessing. A snarling rogue launched itself at me from the side. Pure instinct took control. I spun and caught it by the throat mid-leap, driving it down against the stone floor until bones snapped beneath my grip.
"Stay out of my way!" I roared, my focus snapping back to the moment. Jasmin was somewhere in this hellhole and I had to reach her.
