I kept my gaze fixed on the empty page in front of me, refusing to look up at the others scattered around the library. Especially not at Max or Swift. And definitely not at Clyde and Elliott, who sat directly across from me, making every breath feel heavier.
The reason for my discomfort gnawed at my insides like a persistent ache. Days ago, I had overheard the Alpha instructors discussing something that made my stomach drop. Neither Clyde nor Elliott had participated in the overnight survival trial. Not because they were wounded. Not because they lacked the drive to win. But because of me. Because they had confronted the instructors about the unfair ruling regarding Harris's death.
The consequences of their actions hit like a punch to the gut. Elliott had lost his hierarchy position entirely. Clyde, who had earned his hierarchy dorm by defeating over a hundred Alphas in brutal combat, had lost his place as well.
