Chapter 7 - Chapter 7

The first rays of dawn pierced the mist over the Azure Fang Sect grounds. Liang Ze had barely slept, his mind consumed with thoughts of the silver-haired cultivator and the rivalries forming among the disciples. Shadows stretched around him, coiling protectively, the Shadow Core thrumming with potential energy.

Elder Yun appeared silently beside him, arms folded. His presence radiated authority, and every move he made exuded years of cultivation experience.

"Liang Ze," Elder Yun said, voice low but firm. "Today marks your first mission outside the sect grounds. It is not a training exercise. You will face unknown dangers, rival cultivators, and unpredictable beasts. Survival is priority. Skill improvement is secondary."

Liang Ze nodded. "Understood. I won't fail."

Jian Hao and Lin Bo hurried to catch up, their expressions a mix of excitement and nervous anticipation.

"You think we're really going to face something worse than the Shadow Ruins?" Jian Hao asked, glancing nervously at Liang Ze.

Liang Ze smirked. "Probably. But worse isn't necessarily unbeatable. We adapt. We strike. We survive."

Lin Bo cracked his knuckles. "Yeah, and I've got your back. Just… don't get yourself killed, alright?"

Liang Ze's shadow blades flared at his side. "Relax. I've survived death before. This is just another challenge."

---

The mission briefing came swiftly. Elder Yun led them to the edge of the sect, where a faint trail of blood smeared across the ground.

"Bandits and rogue cultivators have been ambushing travelers along this path," Elder Yun explained. "Your task: clear the route and ensure safe passage for incoming supply caravans. Proceed with caution. The Bloodmoon Bandits are notorious for traps and deceit."

Liang Ze's eyes gleamed. The system chimed immediately:

"Mission detected: Bandit and rogue cultivator engagement. Threat level: high. Suggested approach: reconnaissance, stealth, skill combination. XP gain potential: substantial. Artifact acquisition: possible."

He grinned faintly. "High threat, huh? Perfect."

The trio set out, shadows flitting over the misty forest floor. Every tree, every rock was a potential threat.

---

As they advanced, Liang Ze's instincts screamed. The forest grew unnaturally quiet. Even the wind seemed to pause, as if holding its breath.

Suddenly, arrows sliced through the mist, whistling past their heads.

"Ambush!" Jian Hao shouted. Lin Bo dove behind a tree, fists sparking with energy. Liang Ze disappeared instantly, Shadow Step carrying him to a safer position. Shadows wrapped around him, forming shields against the next volley.

From the mist emerged their attackers—dozens of Bloodmoon Bandits, their eyes wild with greed and bloodlust. Among them, a few cultivated with energy, their aura dark and corrupt.

Liang Ze's pulse quickened. This was no ordinary ambush. These cultivators had skill, coordination, and the intent to kill.

"High-level threat detected. Recommended action: Shadow Step + Shadow Manipulation + Shadow Strike combination. Environmental advantage: use mist and terrain for concealment and offense."

Liang Ze smirked. "Then let's begin."

---

The first wave of bandits surged forward. Shadow blades erupted, slashing through the mist. The system guided his strikes, predicting enemy movements, amplifying precision. Jian Hao and Lin Bo fought alongside him, energy and fists combining with Liang Ze's shadows in lethal coordination.

XP +80. Level 20 achieved. Shadow Manipulation Level 10 unlocked. Shadow Step Level 7 unlocked. Shadow Strike Level 7 unlocked.

The battle was relentless. Every time they pushed forward, new bandits appeared, hiding in the mist, attacking from unseen angles. Liang Ze adapted instantly, using Shadow Manipulation to create tendrils that bound attackers, turning their numbers against themselves.

A bandit cultivator lunged at Liang Ze with a blade crackling with dark energy. Liang Ze vanished, reappearing behind a tree, and struck with Shadow Strike. The blade cut through the bandit's defenses, sending him sprawling into the mist.

XP +50.

Jian Hao shouted, "He's using shadows to control the battlefield! Incredible!"

Lin Bo grinned, fists sparking. "Yeah, and I'm loving this chaos. Let's finish them!"

---

Suddenly, the forest floor shuddered. A massive shadow beast, larger than anything Liang Ze had faced, emerged from the mist. Its eyes glowed red, claws tearing through trees as it advanced.

Liang Ze froze for a heartbeat. The system pulsed urgently:

"High-level beast detected: Shadow Behemoth. Threat: severe. Recommended action: Shadow Manipulation, Shadow Step, coordinated attack. XP gain: very high. Artifact potential: yes."

The beast roared, shaking the trees. Bandits screamed and fled in terror. Jian Hao and Lin Bo tensed, preparing to attack, but Liang Ze raised a hand.

"Wait. We do this smart. Shadows respond to me."

He extended his control, sending tendrils of shadow to bind the beast's legs, slowing its movements. Shadow blades formed, striking at weak points along its chest.

XP +100. Level 21 achieved. Shadow Manipulation Level 11 unlocked. Shadow Strike Level 8 unlocked. Shadow Step Level 8 unlocked.

The battle with the Shadow Behemoth was brutal. Every strike forced Liang Ze to adapt instantly. Its strength was immense, its speed faster than expected. But the Shadow Core amplified his instincts, his reflexes, his coordination.

Jian Hao and Lin Bo worked in tandem, striking at openings Liang Ze created, their teamwork honed from previous battles.

---

Finally, Liang Ze saw the opening he needed. The beast reared for a devastating strike, exposing the glowing core beneath its chest. Shadows wrapped tightly around him, forming a spear. With a single leap and precise strike, Liang Ze pierced the core, sending energy rippling through the forest.

The beast collapsed, letting out a final roar. The system pulsed with approval:

"High-level beast defeated. XP +200. Shadow Core resonance enhanced. Level 22 achieved. Attribute points available: 5. Shadow Manipulation Level 12 unlocked. Shadow Strike Level 9 unlocked. Shadow Step Level 9 unlocked. Artifact detected: Shadow Claw. Integration possible."

Liang Ze grasped the artifact, feeling its energy flow into the Shadow Core. Shadows pulsed and stretched, responding to his command with newfound power.

---

As the mist cleared, the surviving bandits looked on in terror. Most fled, abandoning any thought of resistance. The forest fell silent, save for the wind rustling the trees.

Jian Hao approached Liang Ze, awe in his eyes. "That… was insane. The Shadow Behemoth… you actually killed it. With your shadows alone."

Lin Bo grinned, still catching his breath. "Yeah… and we're alive. Barely. You're crazy strong, Liang Ze."

Liang Ze smiled faintly. "It's not just strength. It's control, strategy, and adapting faster than the enemy expects. That's how you survive."

The system chimed, highlighting the next objective:

"Mission progress: 80%. All bandits defeated or fleeing. Shadow Claw integrated. Artifact enhancement successful. Suggested action: secure area, report to Elder Yun, prepare for potential rival engagement."

---

The trio returned to the Azure Fang Sect, shadows and mist lingering around them like protective guardians. Elder Yun awaited, his expression calm but sharp.

"You've done exceptionally well," he said. "The Bloodmoon Ambush was a true test. Many aspirants would not have survived. You… have exceeded expectations. But power attracts attention—rivals, sects, and enemies beyond our borders. Be vigilant."

Liang Ze nodded. "I understand. Every step forward, every battle… I grow stronger. And I won't let anyone stop me."

Elder Yun's eyes narrowed. "Good. But remember, strength is meaningless if you lack foresight. Your Shadow Core and now the Shadow Claw give you tremendous power—but power without vision is a liability."

Liang Ze clenched his fists. "I've got vision. And I've got control. Anyone who underestimates me will regret it."

---

As night fell, Liang Ze stood atop the sect's training grounds once more. Shadows swirled and stretched, coiling around him like loyal warriors. The Shadow Core and Shadow Claw pulsed in harmony, responding instantly to his thoughts.

From the distance, a figure watched—the silver-haired cultivator, eyes glinting with amusement and calculation.

"So, the orphan survives yet again… grows stronger, faster, and more dangerous every day," the figure murmured. "Very well. Let's see how far you can push before I finally test you… properly."

Liang Ze felt the pull of destiny, the rush of potential, the anticipation of inevitable confrontations.

"Tomorrow," he whispered to himself, "I push further. I find new challenges, stronger opponents, and secrets that will make me unstoppable. The world will bend before me… or break."

Shadows pulsed at his command. The orphan who had survived death, ruin, and countless enemies was no longer weak. He was a storm rising, a force of darkness and precision, and the world itself seemed to sense it.

"Bring it on," Liang Ze murmured, eyes glowing. "Let the trials come. I am ready."
