Chapter 2 - Betrayed

Judy stepped out behind Steve, wearing seductive pajamas. She wrapped her arms around him, her eyes half-closed, and said, "Steve, who's there?"

Steve smirked, about to respond, when a sound rang out—the box had fallen to the ground.

Devin stood there, staring at Judy, unable to believe that this was his innocent, pure girlfriend.

He was so shocked that he dropped the package in his hands.

Hearing the noise, Judy looked up and saw Devin standing there.

A flicker of surprise crossed her eyes, followed by disdain as she ignored him.

Devin was about to speak when Steve mocked him, "What's wrong with you? Seeing me makes your hands shake? Pathetic little worm, you can't even handle something this small."

Steve expected to see Devin's anger and helplessness, but instead, Devin's gaze fixed on the girl behind him.

Furious, he shouted, "Judy, what are you doing here with this bastard?! You told me you were studying in the library, so what are you doing here?!"

Devin's voice was filled with desperation, but Judy clung tightly to Steve's arm and, feigning weakness, said, "What are you talking about? I don't know him! Steve, I'm scared."

Then she buried her head against Steve's chest.

Steve embraced her contentedly and shot Devin a look of utter contempt. "Are you crazy? She's my girlfriend. So what if she's with me? Or are you just jealous because you can't get a beautiful girlfriend?"

Seeing Judy pretend she didn't know him, Devin's eyes widened in disbelief.

Steve's words made him feel like he was about to explode.

Previously, Judy had always refused to make their relationship public, saying she didn't want to be disturbed and wanted to focus on her studies.

At that time, Devin hadn't thought much and had decided he would give Judy the best of everything.

When he became rich, he planned to buy a diamond ring and propose to Judy, letting the whole world know she was his.

But he never imagined he would see her with the person he despised most, pretending not to know him.

 It made him incredibly angry.

Devin couldn't believe that his pure, innocent Judy would ever act like this.

He was sure that Steve must have threatened her or that some misunderstanding had occurred!

Thinking this, Devin looked at Judy and said, "Judy, if you're having any trouble, just tell me. Don't follow Steve—he's a player! He doesn't truly love you. He just wants to sleep with you!"

Steve laughed contemptuously at that, then looked at Judy and asked, "You know this poor guy?"

Judy forced a smile, then looked at Devin and said, "At this point, there's nothing left to hide. I love Steve. You were just a joke to me. You should leave—someone as poor as you doesn't deserve me!"

Devin's eyes widened in shock. "But…"

Before he could finish, Judy continued mocking him, "Haven't you faced reality yet? You're so poor that you can't even afford to buy me a gift. But Steve is different. He gives me so many watches, necklaces… expensive things that a useless person like you could never afford in your whole life! Do you really think I'd ever truly love a poor guy like you?"

She then caressed the diamond necklace around her neck. The sparkling reflection nearly made Devin's eyes sting.

By now, Steve realized what had been going on—Judy was Devin's girlfriend!

He laughed loudly, wrapped his arm around Judy's waist, and sneered at Devin, "Wow, you're so poor you couldn't even keep your girlfriend, ha ha ha! Pathetic. Someone like you shouldn't even dream of having a girlfriend. You should just stay with that broken bike of yours and deliver packages for the rest of your life, ha ha ha…"

Then he kissed Judy on the cheek, his hand sliding down to squeeze her full breasts.

He spoke to her affectionately, "My dear Judy, you're doing so well. Tell me what you want, and I'll give you everything."

Judy's eyes lit up. She buried her head against Steve's chest and coquettishly said, "I want that Chanel bag from last time…"

She then kissed him on the lips. The two of them kissed passionately, even audibly.

Devin's anger boiled over. His eyes were bloodshot, and he could think of nothing else.

He grabbed Steve and threw a punch. However, Steve easily dodged it and then beat Devin mercilessly.

But Devin refused to back down. He fought back with all his strength.

The noise drew the attention of many students in the dorm.

They came out and saw Devin and Steve fighting fiercely.

Steve was a football player and had trained his body extensively.

Ultimately, Devin was unable to defeat him. He was knocked to the ground.

Steve spat and sneered, "Can't even keep your girlfriend, and now you're angry? You think a poor guy like you can compete with me for her?"

Judy stepped forward.

Just when Devin thought she would help him up, she instead went to Steve.

She tenderly touched his wound, "My love Steve, are you okay?"

Then she looked at Devin, who was struggling to sit up, and said, "Devin, I already told you. I love Steve. You were just a joke to me. Stop dreaming. Here's your delivery money—take it and get out of here!"

Judy took the money from her pocket and tossed it onto Devin's head, then turned and left with Steve.

Before leaving, Steve looked back with a cruel smirk and said, "You dared to hit me? I'll show you what real pain feels like!"

The two of them walked away, and Devin sat on the ground, staring after their departing backs.

His heart felt as if a wild beast were tearing it apart.

Why was this happening?! Why was his innocent, beautiful girlfriend someone like this?

She had abandoned him for money and gone after the person he hated the most.

Perhaps she had been truthful—he was just a joke to her.

Reflecting on his impoverished family background, Devin suddenly felt a deep-seated hatred for life itself.

He had tried his hardest for everything, yet he received nothing in return.

When would a life like this ever come to an end?

The students gathered around didn't show any sympathy or offer to help Devin up.

Instead, they laughed and whispered about him.

"Wow, the poorest guy in school thinks he can have a beautiful girlfriend?"

"Yeah, and he even tried to compete with Steve—so ridiculous, ha ha ha."

"Anyone with sense would choose Steve. No one would want to be with a poor guy like him."

"Exactly, he really doesn't know his place. A poor boy like him doesn't deserve to pursue a beautiful girl like that."

 …

Countless mocking words and laughter rang in Devin's ears.

He gripped the money Judy had thrown on the ground, his fingernails digging into his skin, yet he felt no pain.

Anger and despair consumed his mind.

Gritting his teeth, he forced himself to stand, ignoring the taunts, and pedaled away.

The gazes from behind were like monsters chasing him, reminding him of the harsh and depressing reality he could not escape…
