Chapter 75 - Chapter 75: Ember Serpents

The eastern district of Ignis stretched like a jagged scar beneath the crimson sky. Twisted metal scaffolds, collapsed towers, and molten fissures marked every street. Heat rose in waves, shimmering over darkened ash, carrying the scent of burned forests and charred life.

Lyra's golden eyes scanned the horizon, Phoenix Flame flickering faintly along her arms. Each pulse of her core whispered of responsibility—and of exhaustion she barely admitted to herself.

"…Orion… it feels heavier today," she murmured, her voice almost lost in the crackling heat.

He placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "…Your flame is still steady, Lyra. But… pace yourself. Fifteen years of darkness doesn't vanish in one day."

Serena's Light flared along crumbling rooftops, scanning the ash-choked streets. "Eastern sector reports multiple corruption spikes. We're not alone."

Kael's Moon aura shimmered, calm and sharp. "…Looks like some kind of mini-boss. Nothing huge yet—but strong enough to force coordination."

Mia's Water currents hissed as they coiled over molten fissures, shielding trapped civilians. "Be careful. Lava flow is unstable here."

Emergence of the Ember Serpents

From the molten sewers and broken pipes slithered serpentine forms—Ember Serpents. Their scales glowed faintly red and black, corrupted fire coursing along segmented bodies. Each hiss carried a pulse of dark aether, distorting the air around them.

Rafael's Wind currents swirled in defense, redirecting molten fire streams from the serpents. "They're agile… and fast."

Lyra stepped forward, Phoenix Flame coiling like living ribbons around her hands. "…Then we slow them down."

The Ember Serpents lunged, splitting in multiple directions, claws leaving scorched marks along crumbling walls.

Coordinated Strike

The Celestial Warriors moved in perfect synchronization:

Serena & Zane struck from Light and Shadow, cutting off the serpents' escape routes.

Emma & Kai layered Frost and Lightning, slowing rapid movement and stabilizing molten terrain.

Mia & Rafael controlled molten flows with Water and Wind, forcing the serpents into contained paths.

Nero & Sofia stabilized streets with Earth and Nature, guiding civilians safely.

Kael & Seraphina flanked Lyra, Moonlight and Darkness combining to pressure the serpents while shielding her from unexpected strikes.

Lyra reached the largest serpent, dark fire flickering along its scales. She pressed her palm against its side, Phoenix Flame merging with corrupted fire. The serpent writhed violently, black cracks appearing along its body.

"…You can fight your darkness," Lyra whispered. "…I'm not here to destroy… only to free."

The Ember Serpent paused, scales dimming, a faint glow returning to its eyes. Slowly, it collapsed, purified but alive.

Orion's Solar Light pulsed faintly around him. "Another one saved. Step by step, Lyra."

Shadow Phoenix Influence

Even as the district calmed, Lyra felt a creeping pressure—a shadow tugging at her Phoenix Flame. Subtle, almost imperceptible, enough to make her chest tighten.

"…It's… it's watching me," she admitted, voice barely above a whisper.

Kael's eyes narrowed. "…Of course it is. Every act of salvation draws its attention. Don't let it distract you. Yet."

Far above, the Shadow Phoenix stirred in crimson clouds. Its molten eyes narrowed, wings stretching across the sky. "…Clever little Heir… purifying so much… yet you feel the weight of every soul. Your flame weakens… and I am patient."

Lyra shook her head, golden eyes bright. "…No. I won't falter. Not here. Not now."

Orion squeezed her hand. "…We're with you. Every step."

---

Resolve

By nightfall, the eastern district was partially stabilized. Ember Serpents neutralized, civilians guided to safe zones, corruption pushed back—but the air remained thick with dark aether, a reminder that the Shadow Phoenix's influence was growing.

Lyra stood atop a fractured tower, her Phoenix Flame shimmering across the ashes. "…We're only getting started," she whispered. "…Ignis will rise. And I'll make sure of it."

Serena's Light wrapped lightly around her shoulders. "One day at a time, Flame. Step by step. That's how even a kingdom cursed for fifteen years begins to heal."

Above them, the Shadow Phoenix's molten eyes glared down. It did not intervene directly—yet. Every act of purification, every freed soul, was noted. And patience, it seemed, was its most dangerous weapon.
