One of Kenneth's earliest memories as a soldier was of the barracks. They were given to them, ones that weren't ideal, but given the declining resources as well as the military's motto of sticking together, he couldn't help but become close with his fellow bunkmates.
He remembered during one of their first missions coming back feeling completely depleted in both body and mind. One of his mates, Alonzo, however, looked as cheery as ever. He couldn't help but wonder how he was able to have a smile on his face despite the atrocities they just witnessed. So he asked him. "How can you be so calm, so carefree?"
The young man smiled, revealing his white teeth. "Because I can't feel anything," was what he'd said.
