Chapter 58: The Ninja Academy
In this ninja world where houses were built with jutsu, constructing the Ninja Academy still took nearly half a year. It wasn't until the end of July that it was finally completed.
The main reason, of course, was Masahiko's excessive demands. One moment he'd say the facilities weren't enough and they needed music rooms and art rooms to cultivate the students' sentiments. The next moment he'd complain that the earthquake resistance wasn't high enough and demanded it withstand at least a magnitude 8 quake.
The Earth Release ninjas responsible for construction all wanted to slap Masahiko with a jutsu and show him what a magnitude 8 vibration felt like.
Masahiko felt wronged by people's "misunderstandings." He was thinking about the future—what if Pain attacked Konoha? One Shinra Tensei...
"At that time, you'll all appreciate my greatness..."
Anyway, after many stumbling blocks, the Ninja Academy was finally built.
"Witnessed and moderately changed a Naruto world Main Story: The Konoha Academy. Received 10 (*5) Witness Points."
The familiar text flashed, and Masahiko's busy half-year hadn't been in vain.
With the Academy built, Masahiko went straight to Hashirama.
"Hashirama, the Ninja Academy is ready."
"Got it, Great-Uncle. Continue with the enrollment. I'll go over when it opens," Hashirama replied.
"Er, leave the rest to Tobirama..." Masahiko said, a little embarrassed, but then quickly became self-righteous. "Your Great-Uncle is getting old. This half-year of work has been exhausting."
Hashirama looked bewildered. "You... just supervised the construction of a school building?" Over the past six months, many people had come to him to complain about Masahiko's troublesome demands. Hashirama had let Masahiko do as he pleased, but he didn't expect Masahiko to wash his hands of it as soon as the building was done.
"Yes," Masahiko agreed. "I still think Tobirama is more suited to manage the school. You know my personality; I might corrupt the next generation of Konoha."
Hashirama realized, "Great-Uncle, don't worry. You are a qualified teacher. Look at your three disciples..."
Masahiko's face darkened. Do I really have to say I'm just too lazy to do it?
Tobirama popped out from some corner again. "Brother, I'll manage the school..."
Masahiko was so moved he almost cried.
"Hashirama, since Tobirama volunteered, I'm leaving." Masahiko said quickly and left the Hokage's office.
Hashirama looked helplessly at Tobirama, who looked innocent.
Walking home, Masahiko punched his palm. He had finally thrown off the burden.
"But, I worked hard to build this Academy. Someone needs to keep an eye on it." Masahiko thought. "Let Yiko and Kento come..."
"No, not Kento." Masahiko shuddered at the thought of a future filled with bowl-cuts.
Half a month later...
Masahiko looked helplessly at Kento. "Didn't I tell you not to come?"
"Sensei! I couldn't stay in the clan anymore!" Kento looked grief-stricken.
"What happened?" Masahiko was confused. It was rare to see Kento with such an expression.
"Our Clan Head has gone crazy! He keeps teaching me weird stuff all day..." Kento looked miserable.
Masahiko froze. His dear big nephew wasn't trying to groom the next Clan Head, was he...?
"Er, it's good that you came..." Masahiko muttered. If Kento became the Uzumaki Clan Head, the clan would probably self-destruct before anyone even attacked them.
"But!" Masahiko shouted again. "Why didn't Yiko come?"
"Yiko is very popular with the children in the clan. She's been busy teaching them ninjutsu lately," Kento replied.
Masahiko scratched his head, not quite believing Kento's explanation. Yiko was already 16; maybe she was having some teenage girl troubles...
Thinking of this, Masahiko looked at Kento again. Being simple-minded was good; no worries at all.
"Fine. Tomorrow I'll take you to see Tobirama. It'll be good for you to teach Taijutsu at the Academy. But be careful about teaching the Eight Inner Gates..."
"OH! SENSEI!" Kento shouted, drawing curious gazes from all around.
Masahiko's face darkened. He realized they were still at the village entrance.
"Let's go. I'll take you on a tour of the school I personally supervised..."
September 1st.
The Ninja Academy officially opened.
On the day of enrollment, many familiar ninjas brought their children. For example, Sarutobi Sasuke brought the future Third Hokage.
"Sasuke (it's awkward every time I call him that), you brought your genius son with all five chakra natures? Isn't he a Genin yet?" Masahiko asked with a smile.
Sarutobi Sasuke smiled proudly. "He's already close to Chunin level. But he's only nine years old, so he couldn't participate in the previous assessment. I don't know who proposed the age limit."
"That proposal was pretty stupid..." Masahiko said quietly.
Sarutobi Sasuke looked at Masahiko's face and wisely changed the subject. "Hiruzen, go on inside. I'll chat with Sensei for a bit."
"Yes, Father." The future Third Hokage was a bit mischievous as a child.
The two chatted for a while, watching the children enter the school building while they waited outside for the opening ceremony.
Soon, the children were divided into classes and led out by different teachers. Tobirama walked at the front, followed by several teachers without assigned classes. Among them, Kento stood with a "look how straight I'm standing" posture that made Masahiko worry for the children.
After a simple opening ceremony, Masahiko didn't linger. His busy period with the Ninja Academy was officially over; the rest was up to Tobirama.
"One thing ends, what should I do next to leech some Witness Points?" Masahiko murmured, glancing at his status bar. "I already have 180 points?"
"I don't need them for now. Adding points means getting used to new strength, but I really want to be lazy for a few years. What do I do?"
"Forget it. I'll go tease Hashirama and Madara first..."
After thinking about it, Masahiko went to the Hokage's office again.
"Hashirama, still busy? Where's Madara?"
"Oh, Great-Uncle. There are signs of the Nine-Tails reviving. Madara went to capture it."
"Also, recently we've been tracking the whereabouts of other Tailed Beasts. I want to capture them to prevent them from destroying villages and cities."
Masahiko's eyes lit up. "Capturing Tailed Beasts? That sounds interesting..."
"Are there any nearby? I can help catch one."
"There is," Hashirama nodded. "On the border between the Land of Fire and the Land of Wind, there is the One-Tail, Shukaku. It seems the ninjas of the Land of Wind are trying to capture it."
"The Land of Wind?" Masahiko muttered. Having lived in the Naruto world for 68 years, he had never left the Land of Fire. He had wanted to travel for a long time.
So, Masahiko put on a serious face. "Lord Hokage, I apply for a publicly funded overseas trip... and to catch the One-Tail on the way!"
Hashirama: "..."
