The sound of the bullet hitting my mask made my heart stop beating for a second. Suddenly, the cave was too small, too overwhelming. My head is throbbing, red liquid running down my forehead, staining my fair skin. Although, the voice in my head is only focused on my beloved sister, Nunnally. My heart is in pain as I imagine her in danger. It hurts more than the physical wound on my forehead, more than defying my platonic…
Now, I can see my best friend in front of me with such clearness, it terrifies me. His green eyes are wide open and staring at me with such surprise, as if we were strangers. He used to look at me with so much softness… Now they are harsh.
Suzaku: "I didn't want it to be you." The soldier boy said as he furrowed his brows.
I feel naked now that I don't have my mask to cover my sins and remorse. I am completely cornered. Nevertheless, I won't be showing any sign of weakness or fragility.
Lelouch: "Yes. I am Zero. The man who leads the black knights and who challenges the holy Britannian empire. The one who holds the entire world in his hands."
In the background, I could hear the cries and words of disbelief from that loyal short haired girl named Kellen.
Suzaku: "I should've arrested you when I had the chance."
Lelouch: "You knew it was me?"
Suzaku: "I wasn't sure at first. So I convinced myself that it wasn't true. I... I really wanted to believe in you." His voice filled with conflict and his gaze avoidant as he kept talking.
Suzaku: "But you lied to us. To me. Your sister, Euphie and even Nunnally." Now, the brunette sounded more frustrated and even a little mad.
Lelouch: "Yes. But Nunnally has been kidnaped."
The Japanese boy let out a soft gasp that sparkled with sympathy.
Lelouch: "Please, Suzaku. I need your help. Together we can save Nunnally. There is nothing in the world that we can't do together."
Abruptly, Suzaku pointed his gun at me once again. His surprise and empathy vanished. The remains stayed, and that was anger.
The boy in front of me, the one who used to be my dearest, is now yelling at me while all I can do is hope that he will help me find my sister.
And then, you said those cruel words. Familiar daggers that go directly into my non-existent heart.
Suzaku: "Your very existence is a MISTAKE! You have to be erased from the face of the earth!" He yelled.
By instinct I aimed my gun at you. Why you of all people? Why do I have to confront you? I tried so hard to push you away, to hide my true self and protect you. I commanded you to live and yet, here I am. Ready to shoot you dead. I didn't want to do this, not to you, my dearest friend.
However, Nunnally comes first. I need to save my precious treasure. My reason to live.
I left my comrades behind in the middle of war because my light has been taken away by someone I haven't met before. I despise the unknown. I despise not having control, it makes me imperfect.
This is where I make my final decision.
I was hesitant at first. Cold sweat mixing with the trail of blood that was almost touching my nose. My mind is a mess, my body is acting on primal instincts.
Our voices resonate in this humid cave. My nervous system feels like it is collapsing. But between you or my reason to live. I choose… Nunnally.
And then, my finger pressed the trigger. Suzaku's hand followed along and also pulled the trigger.
The two gunshots had synced. Making a melodic yet blunt sound. After that, everything went dark.
