Chapter 15 - 7.2

At minimum shouldn't ignore leatherworking, because money on set spent, need to get output from this, well and Potion of Intellect definitely worth creating. If OP will be awarded for it, and I'm somehow absolutely sure of this, there probably the count will already be in hundreds. Everything still depends on what I get from second spin, and whether I have enough brains to digest and implement received.

Lost in thoughts, I didn't notice how I practically reached the store. There, buying everything needed for crafting five spud guns, more I can't carry in hands, and revealing inventory's existence for such trifle is more expensive for myself, I headed back to my modest dwelling. Along the way, at one moment, I noticed some overly bright commotion among passersby. People stopped, raised heads, pointed fingers. I raised mine too. And saw her. On thin, almost invisible thread of web, cutting space between buildings, rushed a black-and-white figure. Spider-Woman. Hated by one mustachioed journalist and mostly favorably perceived by New York residents.

She was close. Flying between buildings, she made wide, elegant turn, and for one short, frozen moment our gazes almost met. I managed to examine details of her costume: strict black-and-white design hugging figure, hood giving silhouette mysteriousness, large white mask lenses hiding face but somehow seeming expressive. She moved with inhuman, fluid grace, as if she was a mercury drop, and at the same time felt power, like in bowstring stretched to limit. Web shot from her web-shooters with quiet but distinct "fwwwt," and she flew above street, throwing bold challenge to gravity. And then she disappeared around corner, leaving behind only stunned passersby with mouths open, and me standing in middle of sidewalk with stupid bag of PVC pipes. And suddenly all my pride from created Spud Gun seemed so pathetic, so naive and childish.

There, in the sky, was real power, real technology or mutation, doesn't matter. Something that puts its possessor on completely different level of existence. And I... assembled a gun shooting potatoes. Icy, sticky sweat broke through me. One thing is reading comics and watching movies, and completely different, seeing this with your own eyes, in three dimensions, with real sound and sensation of wind from her flight. Threats in this world weren't abstract. They were just as real, fast and deadly. And my main goal, don't die, suddenly stopped being just an OVER-point in the list. It became obsessive, pulsing in temples physical necessity. I need more. Much, immeasurably more than just shooting potatoes.

And also, regarding spider brotherhood... If there's no Spider-Man here, neither Peter nor Miles, means the first, brilliant but insecure guy might do terrible things attempting to follow the heroic path of brave girlfriend (if he and Gwen are even friends). And the second... Supposedly can become successor of Prowler, his uncle, but that's relatively harmless threat compared to Peter-Lizard, or Peter-Goblin, or Venom... Anyway, Universe unlikely wants to miss from hands this tasty piece in form of wounded genius, question only is what path is prepared for him specifically here. And should I even get involved in this?

Alright... Obviously shouldn't get involved, I already supposedly comprehended and accepted this moment. But some threats... They can come to my home themselves, and that's not a figure of speech. That is, sooner or later I'll have to intervene in various events, because I absolutely have no idea which of infinite multitude of Marvel Universe variations I ended up in, and there's non-zero chance of global disaster for all humanity. And I want to live, that's actually the OVER-step of all my steps in this world!

Not coming to anything specific, only confirming opinion that I need to continue acting as I act now, quietly, peacefully sit at home, not stand out and build up my power, I finally reached my apartment. Along the way didn't forget to stop by supermarket and buy more potatoes, now not just food but strategic ammunition.

[Created simple weapon construction "Potato Gun". Complexity: Minimal. Received +40 OP!]

[Created simple weapon construction "Potato Gun". Complexity: Minimal. Received +20 OP!]

Whoa, system, cool it, cutting OP so much for each successfully created Spud Gun! I understand this is protection from mindless grinding. I suspect starting with next one I'll receive 10 OP or even less. And I, naive fool, believed I'd create dozen Spud Guns and get 500 OP in total, yeah, only in my wet fantasies... In any case, I now have 155 OP, and I, comfortably settling on couch and crossing fingers for luck, mentally pressed glowing button "Forge Reality! 150 OP."

[Received information package (common). Risk of Disassembly (MouseHunt). (Unlocking information package costs 100 OP)]

When creating a trap, must account for how often hunter moves from region to region, as well as great variety of mice capable of completely destroying trap. Since designing unbreakable trap will likely make it cumbersome, alternative approach is to design it to break intelligently. This philosophy applied to your craft endeavors allows you to create things designed to safely disassemble into parts regardless of circumstances. Of course, you'll have to reassemble thing after breakage, but risk of it completely flying apart under force of dragon mouse fire is eliminated.

You can create items that when destroyed break into parts without losing components. Traps, weapons or tools easily disassemble and reassemble in any location, making them resilient to powerful enemy attacks.

I slowly reread description several times, and my brain began feverishly calculating options. This isn't just "repair skill." This is an entire engineering philosophy. "Break intelligently." This means I can preemptively build into any construction controlled weak points that under critical load will work as fuses, preventing entire device from flying apart into atoms. I imagined creating some power gauntlet. Enemy hits it with inhuman force. Ordinary gauntlet either withstands or cracks and flies apart into useless shards. Mine though, designed considering "Risk of Disassembly," simply falls apart into several large, intact modules: power source, field projector, handle. Components intact. I'd just need to hide, spend a minute assembling, and I'm back in battle. This fundamentally changes everything! Durability and repairability become not passive characteristics but active, dynamic protection.

And what if applying this not to defense but offense? Can I create projectile that upon hitting target "intelligently disassembles," releasing internal components like shrapnel or chemical reagent, with maximum damaging effect? Or trap that after triggering doesn't destroy but simply "unfolds," ready for quick reinstallation? Thoughts swarmed in head like crazed hive. This seemingly simple "common" information package is real treasure for engineer. It gives not new recipe but new way of thinking.

By first impression, at least in future this skill will be very useful to me, because for example I'll assemble complex thing that quickly loses relevance, and quite easily can disassemble it into useful components for new project! I won't spend 100 OP on this skill specifically now, because according to plan I now have unlocking Muscle Stimulant, but that's after creating Potion of Intellect. Damn, this means I again go shopping to buy everything necessary for it... And also wait for thunderstorm to "excite" quartz crystal lattice with lightning. Though, alright, if thinking properly, can probably manage without thunderstorm... Only paradox is that to think properly, I need Potion of Intellect. Will have to scour internet searching for alternative to charge crystal.

Slightly loading up, I shook off approaching obsession. Time to focus on creating first truly stunning thing! Having created Potion of Intellect, I'll directly confirm I'm capable of creating non-trivial things able to change event outcomes. This will give me additional confidence, well and bunch of OP I'll get as reward definitely shouldn't be written off! So now, while still day, buying crystal.
