Chapter 80 - First Mission [ 5 ]

BOOOOOOOOOOOM!

BOOOOOOOOM!

The explosion continued to strike my back, eventually piercing through the barrier slightly.

But before the blood could land on me, I released a powerful pulse of Telekinesis that blasted the explosion away.

It all happened so fast.

But the explosion was gone.

Clementine also looked uninjured.

Though...

Why do I suddenly feel so weak?

Before I knew it, I tumbled to my knees.

Clementine suddenly grabbed my shoulders.

Her mouth opened and closed.

Was she screaming?

Yelling, maybe?

Why can't I hear anything...?

Just then, a trickle of blood ran down from my mouth.

I eventually glanced down, and only now did I realize there was a blood spear sticking out of my chest.

...Straight through my heart.

Tears fell from Clementine's eyes just like the waterfall where we lived.

She scraped at the blood spear restlessly, trying to get it out of me.

But she was forgetting something.

We were still in a fight.

Mustering up what little energy I had left, I placed my hand over Clementine's and gave her a slight smile.

And before I knew it, my body fell limp as my consciousness faded away.

[Clementine's POV]

No...

"A-Amon! Amon!"

No...

How could this happen?

We were just...

He let go of my hand, and as I saw his head roll back, I felt like something inside of me snapped.

A-All of this happened because I let those Vampire Nobles get into my head.

If I had just paid closer attention, I could've seen the attack.

H-He wouldn't have...

"...Amon?"

He wasn't responding anymore.

His hands had turned cold.

"Amon..."

All the fun trips I had planned for us...

All the things I wanted to show him that I learned...

All the cuddles and warmth I felt when I was near him...

Our future...

W-Was all of it gone?

I glanced past my Storm of Tsunamis directly at the three Vampire Nobles.

...All because of these three?

From somewhere deep within my heart, I felt a sudden surge of energy that I had never felt before.

At the same moment that the surge of energy appeared, the color of all my weapons turned silver.

A pale silver.

It felt like I had greater control over my Gift.

But that didn't change what I wanted to do.

These three Vampire Nobles are going to die.

I stared at Amon's body for a few more seconds, and with trembling knees, I finally stood up.

With tears still streaming down my cheeks, I raised my hand.

The thousands of weapons that floated in the sky slowly parted in a circular motion.

A perfect circle of weapons soon formed.

I closed one eye.

Then, I focused my energy into that circle and finally, I reopened my eye.

Just then, an obsidian eye appeared in the sky.

It was my eye.

And it was one of the perfect forms of my Gift that I never had enough energy to use.

A Soul Destruction Beam.

So as I stared at the squirming vampires at the bottom, I couldn't help but feel even more enraged.

These random vampires...

I'll kill every last one of them.

The moment that thought crossed my mind, a beam of silver energy descended from my eye in the sky.

It covered the entire domain in an instant, and despite the Vampire Nobles' best efforts, they couldn't even come close to dodging it.

As fast as that beam came, it vanished.

I suddenly closed my eye.

Blood began to fall from my nose.

The Storm of Tsunamis also faded, and before long, I was sitting on the shallow water of my own domain.

Amon was beside me.

There was a hole in his chest...

I felt lost.

All this time, I followed him around and listened to him talk as though he knew the future.

Sometimes, I felt like he knew me better than I knew myself.

...What am I supposed to do without him?

I sat there over his body for a few moments until I once again stood up and, with a hateful glare, approached the three Vampire Nobles.

They were laying face first in the water.

Their souls were erased, so these bodies were nothing but husks.

...They were so easy to kill.

Regret filled me more than anything, but just then, I heard something.

BADUMP!

That's right...

These three had hearts too.

I glanced back toward Amon, then back at the Vampire Nobles.

"..."

Not hesitating for a moment, I huddled the Vampire Nobles together and brought them to Amon.

Then, I stuck my hand straight through one of the Vampire Nobles' chests, pulling out its heart.

I placed the heart inside Amon's chest, and then I pulled out the hearts of the other two Vampire Nobles.

The moment I slightly opened Amon's mouth, I crushed one heart, allowing the blood to seep into his mouth and down his throat.

Noticing that a bit of blood was overflowing, I leaned down without hesitation, placed my lips over his, and began pushing the blood down his throat.

After there was no more blood left, I crushed the second heart and did it again.

I was putting all my hopes and prayers into this working.

Because along the way... Amon and I did some trivia.

Vampire blood made one of the best healing potions.

And vampire hearts made the best elixirs.

But these were Vampire Nobles.

Their blood must be better.

So when I finished helping Amon swallow all the blood, I stood up and took a few steps back.

Please work...

I waited.

Then I waited some more.

I lost count of how many hours I waited.

But only after my legs grew numb from standing did I finally accept it.

The person who I cared about more than anything in the world is dead.

...Amon is dead—

SQUISH!

All of a sudden, the Vampire Noble's heart that I placed inside Amon's chest got crushed.

I reached out toward him on instinct.

But before I could lay my hand on him, black scales enveloped Amon, covering him from head to toe.

Then, as the scales began to expand, they took the shape of a cocoon.

Or maybe an egg.

But despite not knowing what this was... I was hopeful.

Please...

Amon...

"Please be safe."
