Before her copied move wore off, Clefairy continued unleashing Gusts of fierce wind, unfazed by the fact that she lacked wings. The roaring whirlwinds from both sides clashed violently, and Serena clenched her fists, voice trembling with determination.
"Clefairy, you can do it! Don't give up!!"
Even without Ash's telepathic instructions, she never stopped cheering, her voice steady and warm, giving her Pokémon strength. Serena's patience far outlasted Floyd's, and it wasn't long before frustration began twisting across the boy's face.
"Damn it!! Pidgey, use Tackle!" he barked, finally losing composure.
The little brown bird stopped flapping mid‑air and folded its wings, diving like an arrow toward Clefairy.
Ash, watching from the sidelines, smiled faintly. Through aura telepathy, his calm voice echoed inside Serena's mind.
"Serena, you know this rhythm better than anyone. Use Jump to dodge backward. Once Pidgey gets tired, that's when you strike with Sing."
Serena didn't hesitate. "Clefairy, use Jump to evade!"
"Cle‑fai!!"
Clefairy leapt nimbly backward, light as a feather. Pidgey's tackle whizzed past her by inches.
The battle turned into a chase — Pidgey repeatedly dove with furious Tackles while Clefairy danced gracefully out of reach, each dodge perfectly timed. The crowd watched, breath held, as Serena's coordination looked effortless, her command crisp and confident.
Floyd gritted his teeth. His advantage was slipping through his fingers.
He had failed to realize that staying at range with Gust was his real winning play — but in his impatience, he'd traded distance for recklessness. Now Serena and Clefairy completely dictated the pace.
"Pidgey, stop! Use Gust again!" Floyd finally yelled.
But the moment he hesitated, calling off Pidgey mid‑charge, a window opened — the very opening Ash had planned for.
"Serena, now! Have Clefairy use Sing!"
"Clefairy, Sing!!"
The pink Pokémon landed softly, her feet touching the ground with the poise of a performer stepping onto a grand stage. She lifted her tiny arms, eyes closing as she began to sing.
The melody was sweet, lilting through the air like a lullaby carried by the wind.
Floyd's eyes widened in panic. "Pidgey, cover your ears—wait—!"
He froze halfway through shouting — Pidgey had no hands.
The bird's wings faltered mid‑air, its eyes drooping heavily. Moments later, Pidgey lost balance completely, spiraling downward like a falling leaf.
"Pidgey!!" Floyd screamed as his Pokémon hit the ground with a thud.
But it was too late. The battle was already decided.
"Serena, have Clefairy strike its wings — that's where a Flying‑type's power lies," Ash's telepathic voice guided calmly.
"Clefairy, use Pound — target the wings!"
"Cle‑fai!!"
Clefairy darted forward, raising both glowing paws. The little fairy struck with sharp, rhythmic blows, each smack echoing across the arena.
"Pa! Pa! Pa! Pa!"
The attack was merciless — not at Pidgey's head this time, but directly on its delicate wings. The watching students winced as feathers scattered through the air.
Floyd called desperately, "Pidgey, get up! Fight back!"
But the moment the wings were hit, it was over. Pidgey's body trembled, unable to lift itself from the ground. One last Pound to the beak, and the tiny bird collapsed completely, eyes swirling.
"Pidgey has lost the ability to battle! Victory goes to Serena's Clefairy!" the referee announced, raising his flag.
The crowd erupted — cheers, applause, and astonished gasps all at once.
Serena blinked in disbelief for a moment before her face lit up with pure joy. She turned toward Ash — and he was already smiling at her, giving a proud nod.
This was her second consecutive win — a victory not just on the battlefield, but over the timid girl she once was.
Her journey as a true Trainer had only just begun.
