Chapter 215: Turbulence
Inspector Nakamori roared hysterically into his walkie-talkie.
"Don't let him escape! Surround the top floor, everyone!"
Following his order, the riot squad members who had been lying in ambush on the top floor surged toward the spire like a tide.
Kid looked at the swarming police below, the corners of his mouth hooking into a mocking arc.
He snapped his fingers.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Countless pink smoke bombs exploded at his feet. Thick smoke instantly swallowed the white figure and obscured the view of the helicopters.
"Cough cough cough! Damn it! Can't see!"
"Gas masks! Put on gas masks quickly!"
Chaos erupted on the radio.
Blake stood on a dark street corner, watching the pink smoke rolling under the searchlights.
Bro, you should have been a ninja; being a phantom thief is a waste of talent.
A playful look flashed in Blake's eyes.
At that moment, a breeze blew past. It carried an imperceptible chill.
Blake's gaze penetrated the thick smoke, clearly capturing the movement inside. The white figure didn't escape via hang glider as the police expected. Instead, using the smoke as cover, he threw out a steel cable and swung directly into the ventilation vent of the exhibition hall below.
A feint. Old trick.
"Since I'm watching a show, just watching is boring."
Blake's fingers tapped lightly against his trouser seam. An invisible airflow swirled at his fingertips. Although he didn't intend to use earth-shattering power in this world, increasing the difficulty slightly for this great magician shouldn't be considered excessive, right?
...
Inside the museum, Exhibition Hall.
In the bulletproof glass case, the gem named "Deep Blue Dream" lay quietly on a velvet cushion. Because of the power outage, the infrared sensor net originally enveloping it had failed completely.
Click.
The grate of the vent was gently removed.
Kid, dressed in white, landed lightly on the floor without making a sound. He glanced at the police still shouting and searching for him outside, the corners of his mouth raising slightly.
"Truly sorry, Inspector Nakamori."
Kid walked to the display case and took out a special glass cutter from his chest pocket. He drew a perfect circle on the bulletproof glass. The suction cup held the glass, and with a gentle lift, the glass that claimed to withstand sniper bullets was removed like tofu.
Kid reached in, his fingertips touching the cold gem.
Got it.
Simpler than expected.
He held the gem up to the moonlight. Deep blue light flowed in the darkness, like the tears of the sea.
"Not this one..."
Kid sighed in disappointment. He was looking for "Pandora," the gem that would show red against the moonlight. But this one was obviously just an ordinary top-quality sapphire.
However, since he was here, he had to take it as a souvenir, and incidentally give Consultant Suzuki a "return gift."
Kid pocketed the gem and turned to return the way he came.
Just then.
Whoosh—
A gust of wind suddenly blew up in the originally sealed exhibition hall.
This wind came extremely strangely. It wasn't blowing in from the vent, nor from leaking doors or windows. It was as if it generated out of thin air in the center of the hall.
Kid's cape flapped wildly, and the top hat on his head was almost blown off.
"Hm?"
Kid instinctively held onto his hat, frowning slightly.
Illusion?
How can there be such a strong airflow in this enclosed space?
Before he could figure it out, the wind suddenly changed. If it was just a breeze brushing his face before, now, the wind instantly turned into violent turbulence!
Clatter!
The oil paintings hanging around the hall were blown askew, some even smashing directly onto the floor. The heavy display cases began to shake violently, making tooth-aching friction sounds.
"What's going on?!"
Kid's expression changed, his center of gravity instantly lost.
This doesn't fit aerodynamics at all!
He tried to stabilize his figure, but the wind seemed conscious, specifically swirling toward his feet. It was like a pair of invisible hands grabbing his ankles tightly.
"Not good!"
Alarm bells rang in Kid's mind. The intuition of a top thief told him something was wrong here! Very wrong!
He made a prompt decision, abandoning the plan to return the way he came. He took out his card gun and pulled the trigger at the floor-to-ceiling window on the side.
Bang!
The tempered glass shattered in response. Strong wind mixed with glass shards poured in.
Kid leaped, the white hang glider instantly unfolding behind him.
"Although I don't know what happened, better to retreat first!"
He rushed out of the museum with the help of the wind, wanting to ride the airflow into the high sky. As long as he was in the sky, it was his domain!
However.
Reality gave him a loud slap in the face.
The moment the hang glider unfolded, the weird turbulence actually chased him out! The airflow that should have provided lift now turned into terrifying downforce.
Kid felt like he was slapped hard by an invisible giant hand. He began to spiral and fall uncontrollably in the air!
"Oi, oi, oi! You gotta be kidding me!"
Kid's poker face finally cracked. He desperately adjusted his posture in the air, trying to regain control of the glider.
But the wind was completely unreasonable. Left, right, up, down. It was like a naughty child playing with a paper plane.
On the square below, the cheering crowd suddenly fell silent. Everyone stared dumbfounded at the sky.
They saw the Kaitou Kid, usually elegant and calm, coming and going like the wind, now dancing an extremely comical "disco" in the air like a broken kite. Spinning in circles one moment, tumbling the next. Once, he almost crashed into the landing gear of a police helicopter, scaring the pilot into yanking the control stick.
"Is this... Lord Kid's new performance?" A fan asked uncertainly.
"It doesn't... seem like it..."
Suzuki Jirokichi stood on the terrace, watching the sorry figure in the air. He was stunned at first, then ecstatic.
"Hahahaha! It seems even the heavens are helping me!"
"That guy made a mistake! Quick! Everyone chase him! He's going to fall!"
In the air.
Kid gritted his teeth, cold sweat seeping onto his forehead.
This is definitely not natural wind!
Even in a storm, the airflow couldn't be this chaotic!
Someone is playing tricks!
But... who is it?
Controlling the wind? How can such a thing exist?
Seeing he was about to crash into the outer wall of a building, Kid yanked the control stick and threw a flash bomb at the same time.
Intense light exploded.
Borrowing the explosive force of that moment, he barely stabilized his figure and landed extremely awkwardly on the roof of that building. Due to the high inertia upon landing, he rolled several times on the ground before stopping.
His white suit was covered in dust, and his top hat rolled aside.
"Cough, cough..."
Kid crawled up awkwardly, patted the dust off his body, his eyes full of uncertainty and shock. He quickly picked up his hat and looked around warily.
The rooftop was empty, with only the howling night wind.
