Chapter 165: The Wolf and the Sheep

Golden Lion stood there, the red and white fan crest on his back appearing exceptionally jarring in the dim rain.

That was the symbol of Konoha's strongest clan.

The remnants of the Konoha forces, who had been beaten into collapse and despair by the Cloud trio, suddenly saw a spark of light burst in their dead silent eyes the moment they saw this back. It was the madness of a drowning man clutching at a straw.

"It's Tsubasa Uchiha..."

A Chunin with a severed arm struggled to crawl up from the mud pit, his voice hoarse but trembling with surprise. "That rumored lunatic genius is here!"

"Great... reinforcements have finally arrived!"

Although it was just one person. But in the eyes of these defeated soldiers at this moment, this boy emitting terrifying chakra waves was more reassuring than a whole battalion of reinforcements. After all, those crimson eyes represented Konoha's top-tier power.

The leading Konoha Jonin was named Tanaka. At this moment, he was clutching a massive wound on his abdomen, blood constantly gushing from between his fingers. He staggered forward two steps, trying to get close to that arrogant boy.

"Oi! Tsubasa!" Tanaka gritted his teeth, shouting loudly through the intense pain. "Don't be careless! These three guys aren't ordinary Cloud ninja!"

Tanaka's eyes were full of apprehension as his gaze swept over A and Killer B in the distance, finally landing on that shirtless dark-skinned boy.

"That big guy is the future Raikage candidate of Kumogakure, the one with sunglasses is the Eight-Tails Jinchuriki... As for that brat... he is a pure Taijutsu monster! Just now, with merely one punch..."

Tanaka's words weren't finished.

Zheng—

A crisp sword hum rang out abruptly.

A sharp sword qi sliced past Tanaka's toes, carving a bottomless gully into the muddy ground. Mud splattered, plastering Tanaka's face. All sound came to an abrupt halt. Tanaka froze in place, pupils contracting violently, looking incredulously at the boy who had his back to him.

That long sword, still dripping blood, was currently pointing diagonally at the ground.

"You're noisy."

Golden Lion didn't even turn his head. He dug his ear impatiently, his tone filled with undisguised disgust and loathing. "A bunch of trash, what are you chattering about over there? Since you've been beaten like dead dogs, just find a place to lie down honestly. A beaten dog should act like a beaten dog."

The sound of the rain seemed to become louder in this moment. The Konoha ninja were all stunned.

"You... what did you say?"

A young Konoha Genin couldn't stand this humiliation and jumped up abruptly. His face was covered in blood and grime, his eyes red as he glared at Golden Lion's back. "We are risking our lives for the village! To protect the defense line behind us, all my teammates died! You guy... even though you're on our side, how can you say such things!"

The hand holding the kunai trembled violently. If his remaining reason hadn't told him this was an ally, he probably would have rushed him already.

"Risking your lives?"

Golden Lion suddenly laughed. The laugh was low, hoarse, revealing a chill that made shivers run down spines. He slowly turned his head. The crimson three-tomoe slowly rotated in his eye sockets, his cold gaze looking as if at a pile of worthless garbage.

"The desperation of the weak, aside from moving themselves, has no meaning."

Golden Lion grinned, revealing a mouthful of forest-white teeth.

"Don't get it wrong. I didn't come here to save you trash." He raised the long sword in his hand, pointing remotely at Garp and the others who were watching this scene with amusement in the distance. "It's just that the prey over there looks rather tasty, that's all."

"As for you lot..." Golden Lion's eyes suddenly became fierce. "Don't block the way. This battle has nothing to do with you anymore. Scram!"

The last word, wrapped in violent killing intent, smashed into the hearts of all Konoha ninja like a heavy hammer. The young Genin's face turned pale; his legs went soft, and he collapsed directly into the muddy water.

Too terrifying. This killing intent... was simply more terrifying than the Cloud ninja opposite them!

"You guy..."

The young Genin wanted to say something more, but a large hand covered in fresh blood suddenly pressed down on his shoulder. It was Jonin Tanaka.

Tanaka took a deep breath, forcibly suppressing the churning blood in his chest. He looked at Golden Lion's arrogantly insufferable back, his eyes becoming unusually complicated.

Angry? Of course, he was angry. As a commander fighting a bloody battle here, being humiliated like this by a junior, his dignity felt trampled into the mud. But he was clearer about the current situation. People like them were already spent arrows—chakra exhausted, riddled with wounds. Staying here would not only be unhelpful but would turn them into burdens, perhaps even becoming leverage for the Cloud to threaten this Uchiha boy.

And... Tanaka understood the fanaticism in Golden Lion's eyes. That was the look of a lone wolf driving away the sheep, wanting to face a tiger alone.

"We're leaving." Tanaka gritted his teeth, squeezing these three words out.

"Captain?!" The surrounding Konoha ninja looked at him in shock.

"Execute the order!" Tanaka shouted sternly, then took a deep look at Golden Lion. "Here... is left to you."

No matter how terrible this guy's attitude was, no matter how ugly his words were. The fact remained: if Tsubasa Uchiha hadn't come, they would all die here. This lunatic had taken on the suicidal rearguard mission in the worst possible way.

"Everyone, support each other! Retreat!"

Tanaka hesitated no longer. He turned and supported the young Genin, leading the remaining dozen subordinates as they stumbled toward the forest in the rear.

In the rain curtain, the figures of the Konoha ninja gradually disappeared.

Rain was still falling. Cold rain washed over the mud and blood-filled Defense Line 13, the air permeated with a rust-like smell of blood. As the back of the last Konoha ninja disappeared into the depths of the forest, this ruin-like battlefield fell into a brief and eerie dead silence.

Golden Lion Shiki slowly turned around. Those crimson three-tomoe Sharingan glowed faintly in the dim rain, his sight passing over A and Killer B in the front, locking dead onto the shirtless dark-skinned boy.

"Jihahahaha..."

Laughter rolled from deep in his throat, carrying his signature madness, echoing over this empty battlefield.

"Finally, some peace and quiet."

Golden Lion extended his tongue, licking a drop of rain that splashed onto the corner of his mouth, his eyes greedy. This feeling was too wonderful. Even in his original world, as a Float-Float Fruit user, he had never experienced the world so clearly.

The trajectory of the falling rain, the frequency of the wind blowing the leaves, the tiny amplitude of the muscle contractions of the three in the distance... everything had nowhere to hide in these eyes. The world seemed to have been pressed into slow motion.

Is this the Kekkei Genkai of the Uchiha clan?

"Truly eyes born for slaughter."
