Chapter 4 - Call Magneto or Professor X

Peter's casual flick of his finger didn't cause much of a stir among the noisy crowd of children.

A few sharp-eyed children, or those sensitive to metal, might have glimpsed a rivet momentarily defying gravity, but they would have, at most, attributed it to a 'little trick' that a kid inadvertently created, which worked on and off.

In this laboratory, filled with over forty mutant children, a slight anomaly was hardly surprising.

The most important thing now was how to escape the institute. After Peter confirmed that the anomaly he discovered on himself was indeed real, he didn't dwell on it too much. He went straight to the door, observed that there was no immediate danger outside, and then found a communication device on a security guard on the ceiling.

As everyone knows, Spiderman doesn't have pant pockets, so naturally, he doesn't carry communication devices like cell phones.

Also, in classified areas like military research institutes, there might be restrictions that only fixed equipment can be used to communicate with the outside. Fortunately, this device could indeed communicate with the outside.

"Hello, this is Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. What can I do for you?" a gruff voice came from the communication device.

"I need Professor X. There are over forty mutant children who need your help right now..."

"Shit! Someone actually dares to do something like this right under our noses. I'll inform the Professor right now!"

The person on the other end of the line was clearly furious after hearing about the Alkali Genetic Research Institute. As for who it was? Even without the memories of a transmigrator, based on his past understanding of the X-Men, only Wolverine would have such a fiery temper.

A minute later, Peter ended his call with Professor X. Without any surprise, the X-Men would not stand by idly. They would arrive here very soon and take all these poor mutant children away.

However, during his conversation with the professor, he noticed that the professor's physical condition seemed a bit off, as if he were sick.

Perhaps he was overthinking it, Peter shook his head.

"The X-Men are coming to pick us up, that's fantastic!"

Upon learning that Spiderman had successfully contacted the X-Men, the quiet children became excited again, including Gabriela. She had always wanted to send the children to Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters.

Seeing the children's happy expressions, Peter felt he hadn't made the wrong choice. Fortunately, he didn't know the Brotherhood's contact information, otherwise, he might have hesitated a little.

Soon, the children quickly calmed down under Gabriela's gentle yet firm reassurance. After a brief discussion, they decided to slowly head towards the institute's main entrance before the X-Men arrived, as waiting for the enemy to come to them was not a wise choice.

Peter, with his Spider-Sense, walked at the very front, while the children lined up in two rows behind Peter and Gabriela, who was holding a shotgun.

Don't underestimate every mutant child in this research institute. Although they are too young to skillfully use their abilities, with proper guidance, they could even hold their own against mercenaries.

At this moment, the piercing alarm of the institute had stopped at some unknown time, as if suddenly cut off by an invisible hand.

The corridor fell into an eerie, chilling silence, so quiet that only their own disorganized footsteps could be heard echoing between the cold metal walls, each step like a drumbeat of fear.

"It's a bit too quiet..." Peter's voice sounded muffled under his mask as he moved along the ceiling, cautiously sensing his surroundings, muttering, "Based on my experience watching so many horror movies, shouldn't some lunatic with a chainsaw, yelling, If that happens, I'll have to seal his mouth with web immediately—can't scare the children."

He first used humor to dispel the heavy atmosphere, then, thinking of the light spots converging on him from the children, he quietly asked Gabriela below about a serious matter: "Gabriela, those children... what are their abilities?"

Gabriela followed Peter's gaze, looking back at each child in turn, and answered in a hushed voice: "Oh, you mean... their ability is telekinesis. But because the children are still too young, their abilities are extremely unstable, appearing and disappearing, so they might not be able to help much if we encounter real danger."

"Telekinesis?" Peter rubbed the chin area of his mask, lost in thought. This didn't seem to add up. Telekinesis should be able to control only metals, so how did it become an ability for metal?

As if sensing Peter's confusion, Gabriela hesitated, lowering her voice even further, almost to a whisper, revealing the genetic origin of these children:

"The genetic cloning source of these little ones... is the famous Magneto and Professor X."

Professor X and Magneto!

That seemed to fit. So, the ability he possessed was a fusion of Magneto and Professor X. He tried to sense his surroundings, and soon found that he could not only affect metal but also seemingly influence anything around him.

It was indeed telekinesis. Perhaps it was due to his newly awakened and unpracticed ability just now.

Then didn't this mean he really could be a mutant? Of course, there was another possibility: this wasn't a mutant ability but a system-like ability.

Also, it couldn't be denied that this might all be Magneto's ability, after all, Professor X's telekinesis was mental and hadn't reached the level of Jean's ability to control macroscopic and microscopic objects.

As for Magneto being able to control things other than metal? Peter, with his fused memories, wasn't surprised by this at all. He clearly knew that Magneto's true source of power wasn't simply "controlling metal," but manipulating one of the four fundamental forces of the universe—electromagnetism! Theoretically, this was enough to allow him to do countless incredible things.

"So..." Peter's heart surged, "the Spiderman is now evolving into... Electro-Magnetic Spiderman? That sounds a lot cooler than being bitten by an electric eel!"

"Perhaps... all the variables stemmed from that sudden awakening of 'past life' memories?" Peter ultimately attributed the cause to this.

As a transmigrator, anything illogical happening to him might itself be the greatest logic.

"Wait!" Peter, deep in thought, suddenly stopped, and the entire team froze with him. He hung upside down from the ceiling of the corridor, raising a hand to signal for silence, "My Spider-Sense is screaming like crazy... there's definitely a big guy coming for us!"

No sooner had he spoken than a strong, tall figure emerged from around the corner of the corridor ahead, taking heavy steps.

The dim neon lights cast his shadow long and distorted onto the walls, creating a strong sense of suffocation.
