Jessica's POV
I stared at my reflection in the ornate mirror, and my own eyes stared back with a hollow emptiness. Today was supposed to be my wedding day, a moment every girl dreams about, yet happiness felt like a foreign concept I could no longer grasp.
The past while had blurred together in a whirlwind of preparations and arrangements. Under normal circumstances, I would have been bursting with excitement, but ever since that encounter at the coffee shop, my mood had plummeted into darkness. He had vanished completely from my life. Not a single phone call, not even a glimpse of his presence.
"This is going to be a nightmare," I whispered under my breath.
"What was that?" Paisley questioned while carefully arranging my delicate veil.
"The man I'm about to marry." I spun around to face her directly. "What's your honest opinion of him?"
She lifted her shoulders in uncertainty. "Honestly, I have no idea what to make of him. He's completely unreadable."
