The memories from last night refused to leave my thoughts. How could they when that had been the most incredible experience of my life? Every moment replayed in my mind during work hours. Caleb consumed my thoughts completely. His face when he looked at me, the sounds that escaped his lips, the way he moved with such intensity.
Beneath all those heated memories lurked a darker worry. Did he wish it never happened?
This morning suggested otherwise. He seemed different with me, gentler somehow. His feelings were written across his features for once, and I could actually read what was going through his mind.
That openness terrified me.
Why? Because I was a complete coward.
I finally had what I wanted, but watching Caleb treat me like we were actually married, like this meant something real, made me crave even more.
So I did what I always did. I ran. But even distance couldn't erase him from my thoughts.
