Cornelia's POV
Are you kidding me right now? Seriously?
The burning sensation spread across my cheek like wildfire. I pressed my palm against my face, fighting back tears that threatened to spill over. This was ridiculous. I had survived far worse pain than a coffee burn, yet here I was, my throat closing up and my chest tightening with emotion I couldn't name.
It wasn't even the coffee that hurt the most.
It was watching David panic over me.
"Jesus Christ, Cornelia," he growled, his voice thick with worry as he pried my hand away from my face. His fingers wrapped around my wrist, pulling me from the kitchen with urgent steps. "Are you trying to kill yourself? Is this your grand escape plan?"
"What's wrong?" Colter's voice cut through the air, his typically composed tone cracking with concern. I kept my eyes squeezed shut, partly from the sting and partly because I might actually break down if I looked at him.
