David's POV
Cornelia stood by the water's edge, her teeth working that bottom lip of hers in a way that made my hands itch to pull her mouth to mine.
"You're overthinking this," I told her, kicking off my shoes and peeling away my socks. The boat swayed beneath me, nearly sending me tumbling toward the lake.
She lunged forward instinctively, arms outstretched as if she could catch me from falling overboard. When I steadied myself, she stepped back, chest rising and falling rapidly.
"The water's freezing, you idiot," she said sharply, glancing back at the dark surface. "We can't possibly swim in that."
I unbuttoned my pants next, sliding them down my legs until only my boxers remained. "It's warmer than you think. Besides, I'll keep you from getting cold."
Her head whipped toward me. "How could you possibly—"
