Rock, Rock Bottom
Weeks had crawled by since my world imploded.
I could hardly recall how I survived each passing day. The office became my sanctuary and my prison, drowning me in endless meetings, financial reports, spreadsheets, and faces that meant nothing to me. Everything merged into one gray blur of emptiness.
I told myself I wasn't thinking about him. That lie became my daily mantra.
Yet in those stolen moments between conference calls, when silence crept in, my mind would betray me. I'd catch myself staring at my phone, wondering if he had remembered to eat lunch, whether he was sleeping enough, if the hatred in his eyes had softened, if the pain I'd carved into his heart still bled, if he wished he'd never shown me that devastating look of betrayal.
Each thought of him carved deeper into the hollow space where my heart used to be.
