Cornelia's POV
Should I have felt embarrassed? Should I have scrambled to explain myself? But what was there to explain? That I had just brought my stepbrother to climax and he had done the same for me? Perhaps it was better to let the silence hang between us, heavy and suffocating.
David remained oblivious to my mother's presence. He was still floating in whatever haze consumed him, his eyes glazed with satisfaction. Then my mother shifted, barely a movement, but David shot to his feet instantly, his body coiled with tension as he faced her. When he recognized who stood there, his muscles relaxed and he exhaled slowly.
"Mrs. Dolf," he said smoothly, sliding his hands into his pockets with casual confidence.
My mother finally tore her gaze from me, blinking rapidly at David.
Her lips parted and closed repeatedly, no sound emerging. At last, she managed a strangled, "A-David."
