My footsteps echo through the corridor as I make my way toward the library. I need to review everything we've compiled for the upcoming trial, but more importantly, I need distance from a certain pack member who refuses to accept that friendship between us will never happen.
The bond between Collin, Atticus, and me requires careful nurturing. We've established a routine where they alternate spending time with me, and honestly, I crave their presence. For the first time in years, I feel genuinely safe. After what Thane put me through, I never imagined I could feel comfortable around any man again. But Nancy was right about the twins. They're nothing like that monster. Their desire for this bond matches mine, and the only thing holding them back from declaring it openly is their mother.
That particular obstacle won't remain much longer if I have anything to say about it. Sending Herbert out in his official capacity as second-in-command was a calculated move on my part.
